It’s not really that complicated. TPAB’s relevance among critics was a bit of a slow catch-up and by the time institutionally it got critical acclaim, Kendrick was at peak popularity w the public. Critics felt like they missed the mark and were out of the know, and used DAMN as a vehicle to make up for missing the timing on giving critical applause to his last album.

i kinda agree but like others have said, it was highly reviewed on release

TPAB was highly reviewed but it was somewhat lopsided in terms of the type of praise it got at the time vs now. I'm not really saying it wasn't praised - it obviously got a ton nominations at the Grammy's and made a lot of end of year lists - but it wasn't considered a generational career defining album by critics with the same level of relevance it has now.
This is in part because of the hype leading up to the album being vastly different from the hype following the album. Critics knew it was going to be good following GKMC and he had fans in the media and the like, but they didn't hype the release of TPAB like they did for DAMN. The generational atmosphere/context of the album was a lot different in spite of the praise.
A lot of why TPAB is remembered so well isn't just the nominations and praise (there's tons of albums that were unanimously praised + lauded with awards at launch which don't exist much in the public conscious), it's because it stayed lauded for an incredibly long period of time and its praise got swept into the next album cycle of DAMN.

well i mean yea that kinda praise doesn’t come overnight

we throw away the term instant classic but i feel like the kinda praise ur talking about inherently comes with time

hence why im reluctant to say it’s slow

i more mean that before TPAB launched the hype for it wasn't as pronounced as DAMN vs what praise was given afterwards, and institutions rushed to make sure they were ahead of the curve on DAMN so they could seem like they were in the know having now given the praise to TPAB they missed in the hype cycle prior.

I have a feeling he'll have a commercial spot for new music on SB day. Beyonce did it and from how Kendrick's been moving he might be following in her footsteps

Matter of fact there's a handful of Beyonce nods Kendrick's been throwing since Morale

I honestly can’t see him doing anything from NLU other than the chorus at the type of event the SB is.

He will get a verse imagine if we watch a sb halftime show and he just performs the hooks. Would be terrible

I mean, I think he’ll do verses for other songs, I’m just not sure he would call someone a pedophile at a show that’s supposed to be somewhat family friendly. We’ll see tho
