Daily Harolds (On Colored People Time )
ha remember when I said Friday then just got quiet. Anyway today I wanted to share another story from
the streets of Chicago. We were going to go to Harold's chicken then he said " could we go anywhere?" I
of course say yes and he says Mcdonalds.
Harvey came to Chicago from New York 3 weeks ago with friends. Went drinking at a bar and lost them.
When you are homeless you don't tend to carry a phone or know as many phone numbers. They were
the ones with the place to stay and why he came to Chicago. He wants to go to California, Seattle or
Vegas. He says " i didnt really like Chicago". Stood outside the local Starbucks all day and only got 4$.
The highest he has gotten for a 24 hour period of time is 20$. We discuss in depth how often people
stare at the ground rather than look at the homeless. They would rather look at their shoes, dog s***,
gum, dirt, cement then make eye contact with the full extent of capitalism.
He settles for a Quarter Pounder with Cheese or Royale with Cheese depending on where you are from.
I told him to make it double because I am a member of Team Rocket secretly. He later says he didnt
want the soda with the meal and ask for a coffee which I oblige. I later ask him why he drinks coffee
since I myself think of it so much as the drink of the people working 9-5pms and stuck in a pattern. I
hypothesize maybe to keep him awake in case he has to move a lot. He says "to stay warm". On a
beautiful summer day he drinks coffee to stay warm. I realize that the cost of not eating leads to a
change in temperature.
In his childhood starting around 16 he would steal from whatever he could stores, people sleeping.
Unfortunately he got popped at 19. He said he valued the most meeting other black brothers but that
there was nothing truly "good" about jail. That it was filled with fighters from all over the world. They
don't care where you are from they want to inflict pain on you. When discussing guards he says "they
were shady they knew they couldnt hurt you but they would find a motherfucker that would to".
This is a man who is just recently homeless. He used to have a wife. Currently shoplifts clothes and
resells them. To not Bobby Shmurda this man I am leaving out details here,but he is about that life.
He tells me about how he used to and still does Flim Fam motherfuckers which is when you compare
stacks of money with someone who is egotistic. Then run off with their cash. I was dying laughing. Has a
desire to move to a big city and end some place that is pure fun fast living.

his is David he is homeless in Chicago. He found love 7 years ago unfortunately that girl started him on
cocaine usage. She subsequently left him which lead to him using more and more cocaine seeking to
fulfill that happiness he experienced with her. Got into legal difficulties and eventually went to a
Christian Mission(Church I will leave unnamed for now). He sells Sun Times newspapers on the street.
When asked about the state of Chicago Homelessness he says, " This is a problem the state closed the
mental health facilities. People look healthy but inside they are damaged. Nothing to fall back on for
them. They are quite often being used by their families who take advantage of their benefits. That is
why they are on the street"
When asked about the church or mission( I choose not to disclose at this time) he says, " Most of the
people going to missions(church) are mentally abused. become apart of a special program where you
get special treatement(clothes, food, water, etc) ,but only if you are Christian. If you are Catholic,
Jewish, Muslim, etc they tell you are going to hell. They treat you like cattle only calling you by your last
4 digits of social security number. They attempt to convert you to their beliefs"

This is Michael (“Cool Young History”) he is homeless in Chicago. He was drafted to Vietnam and told
Uncle Sam needed him around the same age as I am currently possibly even younger. He was forced and
indoctrinated to kill without question. He speaks of a time he was told to shoot a child only to seconds
later see that same child explode. Living in a constant state of paranoia when everyone becomes an
enemy. A place in which humanity has loss their souls due to fear of one another. He speaks on his Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder that he experienced. He sometimes wishes he had died in Vietnam. I tell him
we are immortal through our love and all we can do is enjoy every moment. He now walks down
Wabash just trying to survive. Quite often people act as if he doesn't even exist. A mime that needs to
stay in his box and stay out of our lives. This is a human he breathes, he loves, and he eats just like
anyone else. Why do we live in a world that place that determines life worth by paper rather than by
love and display of the soul is beyond me. I will end this as I ended my last homeless story of Michael.
