In that same episode they played up the fact that the 14 year old could've just moved out the way as a huge gotcha moment.

you’re supposed to laugh at how ignorant riley is because some people actually think like that

that was like the joke itself

The sentiment in that scene I mentioned is very much "the comic relief actually made a good point"

Typically yes, but in that scene where Riley is debating Robert, it ends with Huey (who is supposed to be the enlightened and militant one) going "damn you just got told by an 11 year old" or something like that.

If it's just for the sake of a gag, not only did it not age well (just like Dave Chappelle's version of that same joke), but it's also consistent with the overall message of the episode.

I see your point, though I find Chappelles take more daming (his glee at having seen the video) ultimately the episode shows different view points the black community has on the subject, some people having a mix of two, but it is clear which viewpoint the show sides with at the end. It is disingenuous to say boondocks thinks the 14 year old shoulda just moved.

What happened to the boondocks though, even by season 3 it becomes a lot less thoughtful, the characters become very generic. We go from episodes like A Huey Freeman Christmas, The Passion of Reverend Ruckus, Wingman, that Riley art episode, to s3 where the entire tension of the episode is whether or not grandad gets his s*** split open

Also the largest controversy from boondocks is that the show is greatly a black man critiquing negative aspects of his culture

McGruder is a weirdo tbh the show is a classic but you can tell that he cares way too much about respectability politics.

Thats my whole point as a grown man i see it different now then i did then

I found that s*** funny and maybe im overthinking about the impact but was mfs laughing with you or laughing at you when they watched that s***

I mean Ruckus was very obviously a portrayal of an Uncle Tom which is something that was very real. It was slightly over exaggerated as most characters/things in the boondocks often were but that doesn't make it any less of a real thing. When u think of Ruckus u automatically know that he'll do anything to get the approval of the white man so they accomplished getting the point across. Plus it's not like the characters were laughing with Rukus he was always met with disdain or eye rolling when he started getting his s*** off.

So niggas was laughing at Ruckus. But a white person watching the show is laughing with Ruckus cause they not getting all that. I never liked how white people react to the boondocks tbh s*** never sat right with me

I've had a phase where I accused him of being a light skin intellectual making fun of black people, but I'm off that now. I think his critiques are valid. I do think his framing of Oprah Winfrey being president a positive thing as strange.

he's pretty uppity, he thinks Black Americans as a community need to earn white folks' respect and basically been acting a fool for the past few decades. I disagree with that notion, find it to be anti black af and think he's completely ignoring the bigger picture.
