Album is Gold when the label has RIAA verify the album has indeed sold 500 000, and certifies it with a plaque.
Basically its like completing all your courses vs actually graduating
Many artists dont update their certs for long periods.
GKMC hasnt been updated in a while, it sells 500K+ yearly
CLB is 2x plat elig (2.6M+ sold) but not certified anything

I think its important to note
When artists (labels) finally do update their certs, I always see comments of people saying "wow it took so long!" When in reality the album been eligible for a while, label just take their time
