So an artist willing to rap not just about the hood but try to at least add nuance and understanding whether on a deeper level like Lupe (Ghetto Story one of the first rap songs I cried to dawg) or on a more surface level Kendrick (i got me through a depressive episode in college) is seen as “political” or conscious but to those rappers, they just talking bout they life.

Hence why they hate being called political/conscious rappers yall rob them of the nuance of being human
