    weird fake woke post

kanye was endorsed by the president of the united states who is currently the betting favorite to win again in 2 years

none of these people are revolutionaries in a political sense or even outside the system

    they make cool music tho

determining things as fake woke or real woke undermines any kind anti-capitalist movement and only really serves to talk yourself up in front of others.

Its gotta be top 10 easily. Feel like we know how spoiled we’re bout to be ranking the appetizer as an all time goat song before we even get the album

  • May 9, 2022

Everything about this is perfect man it’s insane the lyrics, the energy, the instrumentation, the arrangement, the video bringing the words to life

the idea of Kendrick as SJW or milquetoast neoliberal self-congratulatory fare is a very common one though and one indeed worth examination

the actual "message that he has for the Black community" (a phrase that is so soaked in cliche I despise deploying it) is of course, not a standard SJW jeremiad at all, and indeed, ppl with relatively long memories will remember him being accused of "respectability politics" upon the release of The Blacker the Berry and because he literally said "But when we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within" regarding Ferguson

indeed it is kind of simplistic that he is apparently some exemplar of "the Black Lives Matter movement" (whatever that means) because some people were chanting the chorus to Alright in 2015 and perhaps because he says "And we hate po-po./Wanna kill us dead in the street for sure, nigga"

i mean on the album version of i kendrick explicitly says

"2015, niggas tired of playin' victim, dog
Niggas ain't trying to play vic— TuTu, how many niggas we done lost?
How many— Yan-Yan, how many we done lost?
No for real, answer the que—, how many niggas we done lost bro?
    This—, this year alone
Exactly, so we— we ain't got time to waste time, my nigga
    Niggas gotta make time, bro
The judge make time, you know that, the judge make time, right?
The judge make time so it ain’t s***
It shouldn’t be s*** for us to come out here and appreciate the little bit of life we got left, dog
On the dead homies, Charlie P, you know that, bro
    You know that
    It’s— it's mando, right, it's mando
And I s— I— And I— And I say this because I love you niggas, man"

which is basically his most direct expression of his actual thoughts (as opposed to the speaker of a song) that he ever gets to in musical form, and certainly something an SJW would themselves call simplistic but which nevertheless shows that appeals to systemic abstractions are insufficient to really get at the full pain of having people you know and love get murdered and then you never can see them or talk to them again and wanting this to stop is something deeper than "politics"

on this latest song he basically is in the exact same place he was seven years ago but if anything even more fed up after a total lack of change epitomized by nipsey's murder

he is pretty unsparing in his dissatisfaction with "the culture" and lack of interest in rationalizing its dysfunctional aspects as unfixable without Systemic Change, and honestly, he's been like this for a minute

this doesn't even begin to touch on the Hebrew Israelite thing, his reluctance to endorse any political candidate in 2012, "Fuck Your Ethnicity," his repeatedly stated devout religion, disdain for social gimmicks and overnight activists, telling daniel ek personally not to censor xxxtentacion's music cuz he beat women,

yeah he has a lot of messages that are assimilable into mainstream "pro-black" thought, like his various performances on late night shows or award shows which booked him so that liberals could watch, feel guilty and then cathartic, or like, bars about fox news and trump lol

and thats why he gets the plaudits and pulitzers and becomes the safe political rapper that the mainstream can feel good about itself for championing

but the actual content of his songs and his public comments is a lot more, dare i say, reactionary, or at least nuanced in a way that problematizes the progressive narrative, than he gets credit for

But that's the culture, crack a bottle
Hard to deal with the pain when you're sober
By tomorrow, we forget the remains, we start over
    That's the problem

    Fav part of the song
