i can't agree on this. you need something substantial in order to proclaim something is greater than.

if you ask 100 hip hop ass niggas on some committee who's the greatest, 50 say Kendrick and the other 50 say Cole or Drake then where does that leave us? it's subjective.

edit: so basically i'm asking what the factor is that their greatness is being based on...

If you ask 50 ppl well versed in hip hop I think 90 percent say Kendrick makes better albums

I think 100 percent say drake make better hits.

I think 75 percent say Cole is inferior to both

If Kendrick and Kanye were to drop a 80/100 album on metacritic, it would be the end of their career. The exact same album from Drake/cole and people would say they're getting better.

tbh DAMN. should have been on the 70-80/100 range...

if kanye got a 80/100 rn, he would be considered to have a career rejuvenation

    and people trashtalked him

It kinda proves there's different standards for artists like kanye and kendrick

    This is facts

Listening to tpab u can def tell that Kendrick super far ahead of his peers, it’s crazy

Ok this discussion has been had a million times but somehow it's much more interesting in here.

I'm gonna get technical. Follow me.

I could agree and disagree with this statement at the same time. Because I feel like "super far ahead" is vague. What's the descriptor that follows that? So far ahead in what aspect(s)?

And then when you answer that question with what aspects he is ahead in, I would have to agree. He's a monster. In certain areas.

But then what about the others? There could be some areas that he doesn't excel past his contemporaries in, no? Or does he dominate in every area?

That's why I think the whole Big 3 discussion and comparisons are kinda null and void. It's just who you're the bigger fan of.

but DAMN is NWTS, IYRTITL and FHD level, good albums but nothing too special tbh

i've seen multiple polls on forum boards and I've always seen Kendrick rape drake and cole in these polls.

Subjectivity is only brought by some people that feel insecure about their favorite artists not being on the same level

    got it.

like many critics are saying right now, you can argue DAMN is his best album...just because you don't understand how good it is doesn't make that album any less great ;) It is worthy of its 95/100 score from a pure quality angle.

It's not MY favorite album, but I can definitely see why it would be considered as his best.

Kendrick's vision has always been far ahead of everyone, imagine listening to Section 80 or even his earlier tapes and not realising this
People got me f***ed up thinking the man that made TPAB as his 2nd studio album has even came close to reaching his full potential

its basically same thing as saying Radiohead (kendrick) clearly makes better music than Coldplay (drake) despite Coldplay having way more hits and a much larger fanbase.

    right.

which draws back to my original point. i know it's all hyperbole and we like to troll and downplay other artists and big up our faves, but we have to recognize that they all represent the top of that food chain. there's no definite consensus as to who's the big dog no matter how we try to convince ourselves.

too many people in this world to speak in definites like that. but that's just my take on it lol.

bro if you rank GKMC, TPAB and DAMN songs, LOYALTY, LOVE, HUMBLE, GOD, YAH, ELEMENT and PRIDE are all bottom tier.

only truly amazing songs on DAMN are FEAR, LUST, XXX. DNA, FEEL and DUCKWORTH are good.

DAMN is a good album but its various tiers below GKMC and TPAB.

Drake doesn’t challenge his audience at all, he mostly gives them what they want (which is why he’s the most commercially successful of the 3)

Cole can challenge from time to time but most of his music is so samey and surface level a***ysis dressed as “deep” and “woke”

Kendrick certainly has the most thought provoking, challenging music that you really have to sit with and come back to after time has passed to see how your thoughts and feelings have changed

Personally, I don’t think Cole or Drake are even close to Kendrick in regards to their ability to create art

lol u're really showing how weak ur musical knowledge is.

Pride is literally the best influenced beatles song we've heard in YEARS.
I can be technical if you want, and mention how nobody in hip hop has ever had a better usage of these normal triadic (3-note) chords, but I'm afraid you wouldn't understand what we're talking about.

From a straight musical standpoint, DAMN is kendrick's best album. And your favorite songs on that albulm aren't even the best songs of the album lmao.
