i hate these talking points because its incredibly shallow and this is the first time in history we have ever applied this standard

just because someone in a rap beef uses points against a guy that hes a bad person, doesnt mean he now has to closely monitor the reputations of every single person he makes a rap song with. This is a ridiculous standard we have never had ever and its incredibly unrealistic esp for a guy thats barely on the internet and we need to stop doing it the only person on EARTH in this genre who we a***yze the entire past of the rappers they work with and critiquing it if its not great.

this is music that comes from very volatile impoverished environments whether u know it or not people having bad pasts is not uncommon. its not like an out of touch 40 year old hipster white man would know anything about this, but a lot of the people i this genre have LITERALLY COMMITED MURDERRRRRS a RAP BEEF where hes criticizing someones CHARACTER doesnt bar him from working with anyone with bad character ever. you can still advocate for womans rights and not do a f***ing scan of everyone who you work with's entire past. HE LITERALLY STARTED THAT BEEF OFF ON A FUTURE TRACK

this is insane cope. Kendrick barely really works with anyone, yet almost everyone he works with is a complete scumbag. There's countless artists out there he could work with which have clean pasts, but he goes and works with the ones that have VERY public s***ty pasts.

You talk about how rap is a very volatile impoverished environment without realising that Kendrick has the power to change lives of those communties with the click of a finger, yet he's choosing not to, and instead to work with known scumbags.

finding a morally good artist in the music industry is a diamond in the rough, so moot point imo

one of kendrick’s main themes in his music is rehabilitation. lefty gunplay mentions how kendrick talked to him about his past and helping guide him to betterment

kodak whole purpose on morale was to show an understanding or perception to why people like kodak have done what they done. heart part 5 with the lyrics ‘hurt people hurt more people’ is basically the simplest way of putting it

of course, people are allowed to see these people as lost causes, cos some have committed unforgivable crimes and show no signs of improvement, but kendrick is from a community of gangs, who have bodies on them, so he is naturally more sympathetic

we cant assume kendrick is some rap guidance counselor of course, but assuming he hasnt/isnt helping his community is a bold take without being involved yourself lol

even on mtg, people focus on kendrick saying people like drake should die, but ignore him saying ‘i could have helped you’. this pick and choose of what kendrick’s said in his music to perceive him a specific way is interesting

I mean for sure, a lot of people have different ways of viewing those things you said. For me for example I don't think platforming those types of people at all is a good idea. But I feel like you think it's fine, as long as the message he's trying to put across is good.

& the message he's trying to put across IS good

my worry is that 90%+ of people that listen to this music do not care about the messaging. they're dancing to the melody and screaming out a couple bars per song. They're then going deeper into the discog of whoever is on the song. Therefor making these s***ty people more popular and more successful. So to me, doing a song with Kodak or these other people is a net negative.

But I'm also someone that thinks barely anyone cares about messaging in music, it's a very niche thing and I know many people on here think the opposite so w/e

i dont even wanna make it about race, but i do feel people have historically been way more forgiving and happier to sweep things under the rug for the hundreds of white artists over the years who have committed similar heinous crimes

so on that alone, i think it would be weird for me to start having a moral compass on whether certain rappers are allowed to be platformed

“Lifting up the community” isn’t exclusively colaborating with people with squeaky clean pasts and monitoring whether that’s the case. Kodak had once case years ago that I heard the most about when he collabed with Kendrick. Kendrick wasn’t even on his phone in this era for one and for two it wouldn’t matter because it would still serve the purpose of the album. Kendrick looks up to 2pac who was a convicted rapist. Only other two people I’d like Carti and Dre. Dre aka the guy who literally put him on and Carti who is the biggest rapper on earth. So no it’s not true he’s collabed with a lot more ppl than that and despite the ktt bubble ur on u have to realize actually these people aren’t known IRL for these things, many don’t know ab it. Rap itself is not impoverished, you misunderstand our culture. The people in it the culture it stems from is related to poverty, violence, character flaws, addiction, etc etc due to where people come from. And anyone who’s from where we are from knows these characters exist, and most of the genre claim to be d*** addicted cheating murderers, so I don’t know how you would help the community by avoiding those same people. Kendrick has stated also it’s not his goal to change all that by himself and realistically he WONT and there is 0 impact on that by himself refusing to do a feature for a rapper for any rapper that got an allegation. Take this expectation off bro he is a RAPPER your literally saying he can be a saviour when he’s said EXPLICITLY hes not trying to be. On top of that it’s incredibly naive to think most people in the industry especially MURDERERS don’t have more to their past that jsut isn’t public. You can’t move like this in the music industry it’s just not how it works and it fr has no impact except brownie points with internet nerds.

And NO ONE has EVER applied this standard to ANYONE before after or same time as Kendrick. That’s the biggest point. This is a made up new internet era thing. Take that guy off the pedestal and just engage with the music. We never for anyone else would restrict an artist by saying you can only create art with people that are clean and virtuous like what

Hiphop artists have had "entertainment" as a whole the easiest out of any group of people in the last decade though, they get away with being literal murderers and terrible people. Whilst look at what happens outside of hiphop to people for far, far less

I don't really give a s*** if an artist is heinous or anything i'll still listen, it's just boring seeing people on their high horse about it whilst still helping s***ty people.
