Im cool with artists taking their time to put out their best work. Artists have their whole lives to plan their debut and then what, one to two years to make each album after. And we expect consistency. When they’re also juggling the business aspect ontop of everything. It took Davinci like 15 years to paint the Mona Lisa, he put it away and didnt work on it for multiple year long periods. If it takes time, then take your time. The only thing that matters is the execution, nobody in the future will remember the extra couple years, but they certainly will forget a mid album.

Theres def no consensus that Michelangelo is better than davinci lol they are both just very influential (Michelangelo also lived 20 years longer and had more time to finish projects). Michelangelo would rework and redo the same picture like 30 times and burned the other copies, so people wouldn’t know how hard he worked at stuff. (This was one of his requests on his deathbed and he specifically said that if people knew how hard I worked at the art they wouldn’t think of me as much of a genius) They both took their time and used the same process, unless they didnt have a choice. I agree though that the frequency can affect how we view an artist, but nowhere near the way the actual quality of the work does. Of course art is subjective so if you view someone having a high output as an important part of their appeal that’s perfectly fine. It’s just not important for me and historically the most influential art was often made when people took their time.
