To be fair it was his best album before he got weird and stared doing critic bait. GKMC was one of those universally loved albums where you didn’t really see any hate for it
DAMN is definitely universally loved, omg yo y’all niggas are really just saying anything ITT

Sure
I find GKMC to be the more memorable project tho
Shame he hasn’t been able to reach the same heights but I don’t hold it against him.
With the way some of y'all have been going on and on about Kendrick and Drake these last few years (well, since Control came out), very much convinced at this point you guys never actually gave any measure of a s*** about the music you supposedly claim to like. You can enjoy either or both of these artists without always needlessly pitting them against each other because you're bored and feel like trolling. Nobody out in the real world is actually doing nor caring about this bullshit. Enjoy HN in peace (or any other Drake record) as well as MM&TBS (or any other Kendrick record)
Kdot stans running immediately towards Drake the second someone says something negative about him is freaking hilarious.
y'all need to chill and stop acting like PTSD victims. it's just music.

Why do y’all want rappers/artists to stay in the same box?
I’m not big on Honestly Nevermind but I appreciate the fact that Drake stepped out the box FOR ONCE (on an entire record).
Kendrick has grown out of the space he was in during the late 00s/early 10s. As an artist and a person. Imo he has made music for EVERYONE since he started branching out with “i.”
He’s made music for the trap niggas, artsy niggas, conscious niggas, etc..

Most rappers have a lane they stick to
As long as you keep it fresh I dont see any problem with staying within a relative comfort zone
I think kanye (and his ghostwriters and ghost producers) rotted peoples brain to the point where if it isn’t a far left deviation from the previous album then its horrible

Because be it in regards to Kendrick, Drake, Kanye, Vince Staples, Tyler, or just about any rapper/musician, most people are just simply traditionalist and straight up averse to new-ish (be it something fresh or just for that specific artist) ideas being implemented within one's material. It's been happening for centuries tracing back to the romantic classical era. I do get it nonetheless even though it is pretty damn frustrating

I’m so glad there’s artists who deviate and don’t just stay in a comfort zone.
Music would be f***ing boring if every artist just stuck to a formula. F*** that. That’s why I f*** with both Kendrick and Drakes new albums. They’re pushing things forward.

I like innovation but there’s something to be said for “if it aint broke” ya dig?
don’t let this distract you from the fact that drake took an 18 minute private jet ride and omitted 5 tons of co2 (third of the amount that the average person omits in a year)

That's f***ed up

I feel like that idiom applies to S80 as well…what Kendrick did on TPAB wasn’t necessarily new
S80 was filled with conscious content over jazzy-leaning production.
I get what you’re trying to say but it’s almost as if you’re trying to paint Kendrick as an artist who went completely left-field after GKMC. Which imo isn’t true

I can only speak as a fan and what I prefer. I can applaud his artistry and delivering what he wants to his fans but I appreciated the replayability and accessibility of GKMC over TPAB, UU and MMBS.
I see what’s he’s doing and as I’ve said in other threads I think that vision would be better served in long form content like a show, his own Atlanta if you will
