now admit the disses are weak

The concept of calling someone gay as a diss which was so prevalent in 90s/early 2000s culture was not peak humanity

If Kendrick gave better fts during morale era no one would have an issue. The heart part 5 was good

The song everyone agrees was better than every song on Mr Morale

The 3rd verse of Ether sealed the deal. Everyone who hates on ether only ever speaks on the first 2

"In '88 you was gettin' chased through your building
Callin' my crib and I ain't even give you my numbers
All I did was give you a style for you to run with
Smilin' in my face, glad to break bread with the God
Wearin' Jaz' chains, no TECs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars, Jigga, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hangin' with little Chase
    You a fan, a phony, a fake, a p****, a Stan"

Painted the persona Jay Z had presented as fraudulent. No one ever went at Jay like that and thats why it worked

I addressed this. Yeah, he called him phony.

But again, Jay Z.. f***ed his girl.

One of those matters to hip hop fans more than the other

I don't care that much about rappers sleeping with other rappers girls

If all your raps from the last decade were all cap then thats a bigger deal

The whole point of a diss is to rebrand your opponent to their audience

You can’t use “if Cole dropped ether today it wouldn’t be well received” as a knock against Ether is what I’m saying.

I just don’t agree. We all saw how he got treated over the trans bar.

now if you’re making the argument about how it was a different time and yadayada sure

and I accept that, but even then the disses are not that crazy. Jay Z had more substance in his, but Ether became a bop so Nas won.

He painted himself up as hip hops savior his whole career but now he’s not our savior? Even on Family Ties he said he wasn’t taking any prisoners in 2021 (lie) and said the game needs Kendrick to survive but now he’s not our savior?

    HYPOCRITE

When he was talking about not being your saviour on that song he was talking about being a spokesperson for societal issues not hip-hop brother.

That’s what I mean. Ether wouldn’t hit today if it included some of the same content matter because society has changed. But when Ether dropped back then, everyone knew Nas won.

Savior is about not being a savior to societal issues, something he been acknowledged is a losing battle since TPAB

Because it was a BOP. The disses weren’t nearly as scathing as Jay’s. Why cant we just say that

You evaluating them from your standpoint now. If you weren’t alive back then, you can’t understand it.

Nas attacked him with every angle

And its important to remember that no one ever heard Nas rap like he did on Ether until Ether

Its why I have confidence that Kendrick will (eventually) give us an entertaining diss even though he isn't technically battle tested

The Jay/Nas parallels here are kinda crazy
