I can't believe people aren't totally bored to death with the sales = quality debate after all these years

Drake will always be higher on the charts than Kendrick

Does that mean he's better? I don't know, grow up and use your own ears to decide

The writing is disgusting, he knows 3 Jason's he feel like he in the matrix, is this the same man who penned drew a Picasso and Marvin's Room?

So many bars on that album were just...

Yeah but strangely they didn’t really promote it together

    Then drake said

“If I give a verse they’ll take it and jump around on stage like we’re aces, you f***ed a rapper, girl, but you ain’t f*** drake yet”

Honestly hard to discern who's being the a******. Probably both, you have to be already kind of crazy to pursue a commercially successful career in music

I stopped listening to both FATD and Mr Morale

but that doesnt make them bad albums

It's not about you and me, it's about the general public. FATD is still being played massively and is still selling very well several months later

yes? why it’s out of the charts then?

oh yes people must be listening on mp3, that’s why it isn’t charting

Using chronically online logic to argue that Mr Morale wasn’t popular in real life is certainly a choice

Posted this effort post about the situation earlier but I'll repost it since it's relevant:

This situation has kind of tarnished my view of Drake and Kendrick a lil bit to some extent.

I know rap can be viewed as a competitive sport and it's very much in the DNA of the art, but at the same time rap and hip hop also has roots in just being fun. You know in the 70s and 80s a lot of the songs were about enriching your life by just having a good time, as party music like at block parties, you know like the hip hop a hip hibbidty joint I forgot the name lmao. But you get what mean. Not all songs were about saving the world.

But rap also evolved to reflect the struggles of our people being systematically opressed, talking about real s*** that is affecting you in real life. This is equally valid and is often inherently respected as more valid since it's more serious and intellectual to some extent.

But in my opinion, the assumption about what's more valuable by both shows they aren't the men they think they are. They can both brag about the money, respect and power they have but at the end of the day not being able to at least acknowledge this fact shows they both got some learning to do. That don't mean you can't have competition but you can tell both take it serious and believe their own lies. They both use the argument that they're in a different lane when it suits them but deep down you can tell they don't believe it.

I personally like to appreciate each artist for what they bring to the table and all forms of rap. I love hip hop for all of it

I’d be very careful in citing RYM

That’s just purely a demographic thing

The user base there is very specific people

The highest rated or most rated Jay Z album is Watch The Throne for example, there’s a ton of weird s*** like that where it’s like “oh this is only white people”

Kendrick is held high in that crowd that’s why the album is there. Honestly means nothing though

All it means is that demographic loves the album

    Which doesn't mean nothing

    It just doesn't mean everything

Citing KTT is just as limiting, with a somewhat overlapping userbase

Maybe because of the type of music it has on it you smooth brain retart
DAMN. is still high on the charts and it doesn't have nearly as much commercial songs Drake has on every album
If Kendrick decided he wants to make something for the charts he can easily do it like he did in the past

I'm tired of people saying of drake : there's a great somewhere in there if you cut the fat or of Cole: he's got a great album in him when actual curators of classic albums exists, Vince staples S/T is nice compact classic backed by incredible production from Kenny Beats, that b**** ass nigga Denzel doing the most with Melt My Eyez too

Yeah for sure we definitely shouldn’t cite ktt either lol

The streets and general rap audience ain’t f*** with morale like that though for real. It is considered a low for him in actual hip hop circles. And from my vantage point that’s the correct judgement, it’s easily not at the level of execution that his previous 4 full lengths were at
