If you know rap you’d get the criticism. It’s not that wild. He’s an elite storyteller and album maker but not so much an elite traditional lyricist.

Kendrick lowkey the best rapper without a great grasp of the English language. Some of them clumsy word salad bars you can tell he’s trying to say something but it’s like wtf you using these words for?

Do you have an example of Kendrick using word salad? I’ve never thought of Kendrick as being a word salad type rapper

It’s kinda sad to me how people decided to react to an album by a black man (when most of them aren’t black) exploring his traumas. Meanwhile, they’ll literally hype a dude (that doesn’t look like most of them, mind you) that has been talking about the same topics (toxicity to women, haters, being at the top, places they’ve never seen or can’t relate) on every album since 2013 with different sounds behind it.

And I enjoy DLDT, most of CLB and Her Loss and some of FATD, it’s just something I’ve noticed he’s been doing in his music and try to fairly critique. But I never see or hear even an attempt to do that from the other side. It’s always “numbers, auntie is a man, cheated on his wife” type s***

The most egregious examples are features like That Part remix

Phrases like “euphoria can slow dance” or “ambiguous favors”

To be honest I always thought he could’ve toned down the attempts at internal rhyming on How Much a Dollar cost in favor of making the story more immediate and easy to follow in the way Big and Nas stories are. I would describe the first verse as a little clumsy and over technical

Which is kind of a trap he falls into with some degree of frequency. Lowkey he lacks an ability of having bars that immediately resonate compared to a lot of greats. This why his fans have to post things about “howto listen to the album properly”

I still love Kendrick I’m not tryna say this s*** to discredit him but I’m being objective as someone who’s listened to a lot of rappers
