Definitely pros and cons to vigilantism. While the existence of vigilantes is normally the result of corrupt law enforcement and/or flawed/failing justice system, leading people to take justice into their own hands upon those they feel slip through the cracks and get away with some heinous s***. There have been many cases (such as this one) where people take up vigilantism to serve their own racist, xenophobic, or misogynistic agendas.
