Because the lesson he learned from the Pusha beef was not "Don't involve family members", it was "you win if you can make the other party look bad with serious allegations." He mentioned Whitney so he could bait Kendrick into coming at him, that way Drake could drop Family Matters and destroy Kendrick's reputation and win the beef in one fell swoop.

Unfortunately for Drake he's an idiot who both seriously misjudged his opponent and was simultaneously completely blind to his own reputation. The DV accusations didn't pass the sniff test for a lot of people and Kendrick was able to outmaneuver him with MTG and then finish him off with NLU while he was still reeling.

Next time Drake wants smoke he needs to remember that rap battles are just as much about rapping and narratives as they are about slinging mud.

I actually think that Future renegaded Drake on Live From The Gutter because Future showed he could make an emotional rap song about living in a traphouse and seeing the destruction it causes to himself and to people but then Drake just comes in with some generic ass street verse

I think it's because Future had familiarity with that lifestyle, and he was affiliated with Dungeon Family so he was around a lot of good rappers that knew how to do narrative storytelling well, he could tap into that well of knowledge that Drake couldn't
