Kendrick just wanted to embarrass Drake a lil and have a fun skirmish in the culture.
However, Drake saw this as his chance for redemption after Push and wanted to demolish Kendrick.
I think that because Like That verse is pretty light diss wise, even going at one of his friends, J Cole, and then Drake, knowing that this wouldn’t reach the heights he wanted decided to diss Whitney too.
Then K Dot warned Drake twice on euphoria and 6:16 that he didn’t want to take it there.
Then Drake, hours after giddily posting an Instagram story about how he’s gonna wash Kendrick, drops his “red button” song, one that was extremely personal and over the line, in the context of a friendly sparring match.
Then, and only then, did Kendrick start going scorched earth with meet the grahams and Not Like Us.
Basically, my conclusion is Drake is a bully who was looking forward to hurting someone for his own gain, and then eventually got what was coming to him when the tables turned.Classic tale of ikarus flying too close to the sun and burning tf up
