American PatriotDrake’s dumb ass is actually totally unfamiliar with Kendrick’s music. His idea of Kendrick was that of an aviless KTT2 Drake stan who describe TPAB as a “blm album”. He thought Kendrick was too deep to entertain a rap beef about height and d*** size and that he had a hit secured, like he always does, with Family Matters.
Taylor Made is such an interesting case because he obviously wasn’t gunning for a hit, he was actually geeked poking fun at Kendrick, so f***ing sure that he had one. Totally sincere.

I think your point about Kendrick having more to lose leans closely to what I’m trying to say in the sense that he was the “king” / “boogeyman” when it came to this according to the real “hiphopheads”and it was time to prove it. People wanted him to! People wanted to hear a pedo diss at Drake!

it’s crazy cause i thought the situations would be completely flipped for this beef
i thought Drake would write a super strong melodic hit/banger just straight going at Kendrick and he would secure a #1, he would have people making TikToks, dancing to it, the entire kitchen sink
i figured Kendrick would be stuck making inaccessible but at least dense and thoughtful critiques and attacks on Drake’s character, but would fail to chart in any significant way, and the entire thing would be about having to argue about how Drake attaining a number one doesn’t mean he won, blah blah etc.
he dropped MTG (at which point he already won for me tbh) and then he just slammed him with Not Like Us which became a smash hit
