I don’t think that not catching a few things here or there makes you any less of a listener of Kendrick’s music. First of all, we are talking about a dude who’s main goal has always been to make every day life music. A dude who has said many times, he appreciated all the in-depth a***ysis and love the fans have for the music, but has said we should also just take it for what it is often. Yes, he leaves things in there for people to find, but just because you don’t, doesn’t make you any less of a fan or in depth listener

You could do all that a***yzing, but I’ll rap you every bar to Mr. Morale because I just really love the music and the message. The biggest connection I made on that album is it sounded like a perfected OD, and his reflections on his healing journey and how that compares to my life. Outside of that, over a***yzing creates these spaces where we begin to make up things that may not actually be there and then turn around and talk down on our fellow listeners who maybe didn’t catch that thing that MAYBE was left there for a listener like you. Everyone takes different things in different ways, that’s why these artists are at the level they are because they can feed most, if not all, of those needs from different listeners.

Idk, I just really don’t like that “you’re a lazy listener” s***. It comes across super reddit elitist type s***. Let people reflect on music how they choose, cause what are you gonna say if Kendrick comes out tomorrow and is like “here’s my sunseeker boat, ya’ll can stop saying I was rapping like Drake now”
