been traveling for a month through Europe and haven’t heard NLU once, most of the people I’ve met in hostels and bars don’t even know who Kendrick is (haven’t asked though, but nobody mentions him when we talk about music)

    Europe

Maybe not his music but his style was iconic, the average person probably seen him somewhere in some form of media

the average person around the world probably has no idea who lil wayne is. lmao

Vince has a Netflix show can we place understand what underground is

  • RICKY 2320

not an underground rapper by any means but he is unknown worldwide compared to the greats

Biggie, Pac, Snoop, Dre, 50, Jay Z, Eminem, Kanye, Drake, OutKast and Wayne transcended rap. kendrick isn’t at that level maybe if we use metacritic scores as a metric yes, but the average person couldn’t name you a kendrick song outside the US

The majority of people could not name a song by most of the artists on your list.

“Hey Ya”, “Lose Yourself”, “In Da Club” and “Stronger” are songs that transcended rap. I can’t stress enough how rare that is. My mother knows those songs. Humble is as well known as any song by Biggie, Pac, Snoop or Jay. Not Like Us is likely going to surpass it.

Kendrick not even bigger than Z-Ro tbh

kendrick’s main audience is people that care more about reviews and metacritic scores than the music itself

he made a smart choice pandering to social media haters this year though can’t lie, this drake beef definitely revived his career

I have the same perception about Radiohead.

NEVER listened to them in my life and rarely if ever listen to rock, but I know them.

The difference is I’m not ignorant enough to say they aren’t known by your average person, or not popular, or their career is dead when they can announce a tour and sell out stadiums at any moment.

    That’s Kendrick.

He is a legacy artist like Kanye, or Jay Z or 50 cent, eminem.

They never have to drop music again but can sell out any venue in the world.
