I don't fully agree, he was repping Harlem and just had some songs with a Houston influence.

He never once fronted on his Harlem upbringing.

Plus I revisited LiveLoveASAP and lowkey a lot of it was him doing them chill beats like Wiz did for Kush & OJ or how Curren$y was doing for Pilot Talk.

That lifestyle rap was a huge wave back then.

Plus a lot of our old heads in NY weren't even mad at Rocky for his sound they were mad cuz of his fashion sense and him calling himself a Pretty Mother F***er and s***. I remember the annoying discourse around that lol

Niggas don’t have to make music that sounds like their region to be where they’re from. Rocky is from Harlem and he’s proud to be from Harlem i dont see why he has to make Harlem sounding music for that to be true

Rocky went on to become a staple in rap and did plenty of dope things for NY and basically every NY media outlet ended up eventually coming around to Rocky because they realized that them being against him wasn’t beneficial to anybody or necessary

Rocky was truly for unity in rap music and shows love and respect to every region in hip hop, people wanted him to be on some NY over everything s*** but not every single rapper has to be like that. If anything rocky opened doors for NY artist like A Boogie and Pop Smoke who didn’t have traditional NY sounds either.

I get in 2011 their hesitation but I think by 2012 when they realized they had Joey Badass to still represent their classic sound they accepted different rappers serve different purposes

And lastly he wasn’t solely taking influence from Houston, he took influence from Memphis, and also took influence from Max B who is NY and you can tell on that first mixtape he was a huge Wiz Khalifa fan
