I remember 17 came out by X (say what you want about that album, I love it) and my friends were saying “no one wanna hear that sad ass s***” but a couple months later he really enjoyed it and he admitted he couldn’t identify with the album cuz he hadn’t been thru depression like that yet

I do wish Kendrick had promoted Morale a little differently. It didn’t really end up having any hits. N95 was probably the closest, but it didn’t really have the staying power of some of his previous hits.

I saw a fan theory years ago that each Kendrick album is conceptually a different story telling medium. Take with a grain of salt but interesting nonetheless imo.
