It was the months from December 2014 to February 2015 with the back to back releases of the classic albums 2014FHD, IYRTITL, and TPAB that the big 3 rose above everyone and was cemented. If Ye really cared about competing he needed to have an album with good rapping on it during that time period. But he didn’t

Yeah and once Ye started doing mumble music people stopped putting him in “rapper” conversation anyway. The music stayed quality but there’s something to be said here for him falling off miserably as a rapper, losing control of his flow and voice which were once very good. He only just got it back in the 20s with Donda and Vultures. From 2016 to 2020 it seemed like the medication completely ended his ability to record vocals properly
he was rapping his ass off on Pablo, KSG and alot of Donda. Drake sings for more than half his albums so it equals out with Kanyes "mumbling".

I respect where you’re coming from as a music fan
But you don’t know rap lol
You like Kanye because he appeals to your artistic sensibilities
There’s not a single verse on Pablo or KSG that compares to the best verses from Drake, Cole and Kendrick over that time period. He did not rap his ass off on those projects. On the contrary, it’s literally a textbook example on how NOT to flow, how NOT to deliver rap vocals. The worst stuff I have personally ever heard by a major artist on that level. But the music mostly made up for it
Off the Grid though? Yes that’s what we were missing and that’s what we needed. He actually tried on that verse. He stopped trying from 2016-2020
