And I completely agree. That's why I said that it's likely that the biggest reason why he took such a long break was because he wasn't inspired/had writer's block and that's okay. It can happen to anyone.

That's why I don't get talking down on the people who are able to keep inspiration accessible to remain consistent with their music releases. It isn't an easy thing to do.

Look, to me, Kendrick is already solidified. He was solidified to me the moment he dropped TPAB. For Drake, it was the moment he dropped NWTS. Everything he's done after that is just a bonus so that's why it's so admirable that he's able to keep it going.

I wouldn't mind Drake taking a break. I just know that him taking a break doesn't necessarily mean he'll return with his best music ever. He's the same guy who dropped So Far Gone, Thank Me Later, Take Care and Nothing Was the Same from 2009-2015 and those are considered as some of his best releases.

An album from 12 years ago ended up at No. 30 on the Billboard 200 and No. 12 in R&B/Hip-Hop last year. People are very clearly still listening to that album. In order for an album to be considered a classic, one of if not the most important thing it has to be...is replayable.

Exactly. Which is weird bc Kendrick pre MMBS was one of my favorites ever and I will die on the hill of any of his earlier works. But it's like if you don't like one project from dude and say criticisms you a Drake d*** rider. I care about if the music sounds good first before all because at the end of the day you gotta enjoy what you're listening to and I just didn't enjoy a lot of his vocal performances on that project not to say he wasn't spitting.

This is exactly why this whole beef is just utterly dumb to begin with anyway though. The utter refusal by both to acknowledge that they prioritize different things in their careers and have different goals just makes this whole thing ring off as immature for both. Particularly damning Kendrick since he's the one that leans more into arguing that his work is more meaningful and a result of personal development than his peers. The constant downplaying of the others work both of them do is cringe inducing.

Not to mention the idea of there being one singular GOAT being reductive to hip hop and discourse as a whole.

TPAB I get thinking overrated or in the moment or whatever have you or not your taste even if I highly appreciate parts of all his album

but GKMC no replay value is insane you have to be 18-23 max

what’s your definition of a classic album? my definition is a “an album you listen to front to back at least once a year”

it’s easy to listen to GKMC once a year. no problem there because it is a classic. but there are other classics that i listen to probably once a month because its a much more easier listen.
