some beats really dusty and all and even if u Like all songs

It's mainly the post beef fans who are like this. And it's a form of overcompensation because these niggas know damn well that they were quiet as a mouse when Kendrick was already dropping quality music before beating Drake.

I lowkey miss speaking on Kendrick and defending him on here when he was still the "underdog" during the Mr. Morale era.

Crazy how KTT2 did a complete 180 on him cause I vividly remember all the "Kendrick is overrated", "TPAB is critic bait", "DAMN isn't a classic", "Mid Steppers" and "Drake has more bars than Kendrick" posts that used to be extremely prevalent on here.

Niggas is bandwagoners and don't even know it lol. Even the way people flipped on Cole here is insane.

No wonder Eminem became so bitter over the years. I thought bro was just being an angry White rapper but sometimes it really does get annoying dealing with "live for the moment" rap fans who are ready to smear and discredit you fast due to recency bias.

I don't think ktt2 did a 180 it's just most of those people are gone or don't speak out as much. Even Greatdevine doesnt post as much.

But the way people did Cole at least on the internet is crazy. Grippy was insane levels of hate for no reason.

Eminem is over hated now but I think it's mainly online but his whiteness is still a huge benefit to his success.

Best to worst, drew a line marking where classic status ends. I did this off the cuff so don’t get in your feelings.

    Illmatic
    IWW
    GKMC
    TPAB
    The Lost Tapes
    Life Is Good
    GNX
    DAMN
    Stillmatic
    ————————————————-
    MMTBS
    KD3
    Street’s Disciple
    KD2
    Hip Hop Is Dead
    God’s Son
    S80
    Magic 3
    Magic
    Untitled
    I Am….
    Magic 2
    Nasir
    Nastradamus

I guess in my eyes Nas has one more classic than Kendrick. But I’m aware that I like Nas as an artist more than I like Kendrick anyways. At the same time, not sure where I’d exactly put that classic line at. Idk if I should consider Stillmatic or Mr. Morale a classic, both of them as a whole have their slight setbacks.

mr morale is too new to be called a classic. til this day, ppl on this forum have a hard time digesting music and let it settle for 10 years before considering it a classic. stillmatic is a classic

Nas has more great albums stretched across the decades.

But if by "classic", you mean a Pitchfork/Grammy approved album with commercial success, I guess Kendrick takes the cake.

Nas has damn near 20 projects though and the majority are acclaimed and are good.

And he has multiple classic albums too.

    Most of them? lol

What tf are you talking about? That’s still what the majority says and how they act on here. There’s more Drake stans on here than Kendrick stans. I still see people say all of those things you put in quotes and have doubled down CAUSE of the beef

    Yes.

At best, you can say that Nas only has 4 "bad" projects(which I don't even consider truly bad) out of the damn near 20 projects he dropped.

    That's incredible consistency right there.

The fact that a late career album like KD3 was more acclaimed than Mr. Morale in 2022 on the same year showcases that consistency too.

Forgive me, but I don’t remember KD3 being more acclaimed than Big Steppers. Kendrick hasn’t really missed period at all in my personal opinion whereas Nas has Nastradamus, I Am, Untitled, Nasir, Lost Tapes 2, and Distant Relatives.

KD3 was the worst out of the KD series actually

Even if you say MMTBS wasn’t Kendrick’s best, it still was acclaimed and has recently been revered as an important album

Well Kendrick has 2, Nas has 4+

  • Stillmatic is a classic in the same way GNX could become a classic coming off of a huge battle win. That intro to “Stillmatic” how Nas was being discarded at the time and how him coming out on top of the battle is a great timestamp of that era and how Nas bounced back when everyone counted him out.

To answer the question, I prefer Nas overall bc his heights resonate more with me than Kendrick’s, but Kendrick probably has more or the same number of “classics” with a much smaller disco than Nas.

KD3 was literally the most acclaimed rap album of 2022.

Both albums were acclaimed but KD3 had slightly higher scores from critics.

And saying that KD3 is worse than KD1 is definitely a hot take lol. I would say "do you fools listen to music or just skim through it?" but it's subjective at the end of the day. I don't know how anybody in their right mind who listened to both albums could think KD3 was worse lol.

Also, I wouldn't label I Am, Lost Tapes 2, or Distant Relatives "misses" at all.

And you have to factor in volume when it comes to consistency because Jay's not consistent like that either but his best albums can go against anyone.

  • Jan 27

It depends where you draw the line of classic. But they each could have 2-4.

Are you confusing KD 3 with 2? That’s not true at all. Morale was rated higher than KD3 was that year.

KD2 was the best one out of the 3 for sure and Magic was better than KD3. Literally everyone says KD3 was the worst release out of
    all of them.

How is Morale a miss but those albums aren’t? Who is talking about Hov? lmao

Nobody called Mr. Morale a "miss" at all. In fact, I was one of the albums biggest supporters on KTT back in 2022 and ranked it over DAMN.

I literally said that both albums were acclaimed in 2022.

Also, it's widely accepted that KD1 was the worst in the trilogy and that Nas found his footing with the sequels.

I already explained why I brought Jay up. It's because both of them have extended and prolific catalogs.

Which means that even if they aren't the most consistent, they still have much more good projects than bad ones over the stretch of time they dropped music.

I think arguing about what is rated higher on metacritic is a bit silly. But KD2 and KD3 are higher then Mr Morale.
