Skipped from page 2 to page 28 and ofcourse this thread has become about Marxism and socialism

I mean the OP is definitely informed by a Marxist view on things, but some people like cookies hfm and emu just choose to attack my character based on that instead of talking about the substance of what I said which derails the thread and it's super annoying

I feel bad for Kendrick in that his messiah complex is (was?) largely due to the way he's presented in media and popular culture. Obviously he has some responsibility in the matter but it really must f*** with your head to be put on this huge pedestal which you have no chance of ever living up to

Are the hundreds of thousands of Marxist actively waging revolutionary war in India and the Philippines just “going through a phase”?

I'll never be mad at someone deciding to dedicate their time and efforts solely to themselves and their family. This is the only life we got.

I said this in the Kendrick album thread but I think this album is his way of being a savior for people, depending on how you view it?

Because to me, the way this album reads to me is a blueprint on how to better yourself and those around you. Kendrick is showing us the steps he’s taken to confront his own bias, hypocrisy, and perceived failure, and then showing us how he copes with them.

IMO this can be applicable to pretty much any person who feels some societal or familiar pressure to be a leader or something along those lines.

The album IMO isn’t explicitly saying “ain’t no hero get out”, he’s showing us how we can be our own heroes.

    I love this

Honestly finding it tough to engage in the ‘important’ discourse around the clumsier elements of the message.

Mother I Sober just hit that nerve and it’s existence catapults the album miles up. Fourth of July is basically the only song to ever give me such a visceral reaction. The song just had me sobbing, there’s so little music about that experience and Kendrick needling to that chord caught me so off guard.

Because they made some compromises with Duerte in the past and I wondered if they would be more lenient now

Bongbong is the grandson of the guy they helped take out of power, so i’m not surprised

It kind of sucks cause we have no real political leaders to turn to. The right have Ben Shapiro, Alex Jones etc and all we have are celebrities that vaguely share our worldviews

Then they get thrusted into the spotlight as a leader and they can't handle/don't want the responsibility that comes with that

I tend to think musicians are just not that useful for inspiring social change or deep insight after a listener is over the age of like 25 but they can be really important for young people. When musicians get cynical about their ability to change society my one question to them is, “what did you think a song was gonna do, G?” All you have to do is inspire people to look more into something, make them aware of some new topic, etc. I remember in high school I would find a lot of the lyrical content of guys like Kendrick and Bob Dylan really insightful, but then I went to college and was assigned readings in philosophy, politics, economics, etc, and any insightful information I could get from a rapper was better transmuted in these formats. That’s not to minimize the role of a conscious musician trying to inspire social change- but ultimately I just think they’re important for getting young people otherwise not entrenched in topics and ways of thinking’s to like, go check it out or something.
I thought your point about that great man theory was interesting- I’m not even entirely cynical of the great man theory like most people are, just don’t think it would ever be likely for a rapper to be that figure.

feel the same way tbh, i think it's why I've moved away from hip-hop in general and only really check music out now for the production and flows/melodies.

to be fair he shouldn’t have been posturing on with this savior complex if he was gonna cop out to it as lazily as he did

he played into it, secured the bag and moved on

think this was a conscious decision on his part too, was his niche and now he's one of the biggest mainstream artists in the world

has done well for himself, would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed but sadly that's how the industry works. i've lowered my expectations significantly as time has gone on with him while he is getting lauded lmao it's quite jarring

We do though. And by that I wanna make it clear I don’t mean we as in the left because that side at this point has become radical. I mean we the people, the ones who just care about life love family and the pursuit of happiness with a healthy amount of drive and ambition to utilize the imperfect yet so far best system historically speaking which is the capitalist machine to make something of ourselves for ourselves and for our families. There are some of those leaders who care about people like us, they just don’t get propelled to the spotlight on TV with Ellen and social media by design by both sides but mostly the left considering that they own 95% of all mass media. Look up Tulsi Gabbard. She ran in 2020 but of course the Dems made sure she never had a chance just like they took the lead from Bernie (socialism is horrible, he wasn’t the solution either just to be clear lol) when he was ahead of Joe and appointed Harris as Vice even though she was ranked last out of all the dem candidates. To be clear our option on the right was bad that’s why what they gave us as an option from the left was so important but they gave us who they could control instead of who could actually work for the people. So we got Joe lol but it’s just a game the red plays to keep things red and the blue plays to turn as much to blue. Just a game. The real war is fought by both sides/colors together to ensure that there is never a credible third option for us. Because if there was we would choose it and they would ALL lose. Not lose a term or an election, they’d lose the only real war that matters to them. The war for total control. My bad, this was super run on and possibly too deep for a 2am post but listening to Kendrick just made me feel like sharing my perspective. What a f***in piece of art this album was just wow. Anyway we all needa stop attacking each other for differing opinions they encourage us to have and remember that we are one. Even whoever reads this s*** and completely disagrees with it. If we sat on a mountain peak enjoying a joint together under the stars it’d be easier to see that we’re really all just brothers and sisters and that’s f***ing beautiful. Remember these fake agenda pushing motherfuckers work for US. Literally. Perhaps it’s time we started acting like it. We are THE employer. Love 🤙🏻😊

The realization Kendrick made is that the perspective you just put out is incorrect so he gave up. Both sides, Democrat and Republican are the same. They're both capitalistic and have the same end goal. Democrats do not solve any of the real issues we have in this country. The names you gave me are politicians, and as long as they play the game they are in that same group.

When I say we don't have political leaders, I mean we don't have Malcolm X. We don't have Fred Hampton. We don't have Martin Luther King Jr. And there is a reason we don't have them, because our current government, red or blue, will make sure we do not have any leaders we can trust.

Peace and Unity you talk about sounds great on paper but it doesn't really get anything done against the gunfire from the other side
