Do you really think that’s what Kendrick was going for on this project
Yes that’s what every artist with substance is going for.
People still think DAMN.s narratives makes Kendrick a Hebrew Israelite
Exactly. Damn was Kendrick giving us a cynical/bi polar view of the world through the eyes of disenfranchised negros.
When Damn came out the Hebrew Israelite movement was picking up momentum such as many other fringe groups during that shift from Obama-Trump era. Kendrick was tapped into what was going on to the most cynical and nihilistic individuals in the hood.
K dots just going deeper and becoming a more interesting artist. He kept it too real with Mr. Morale it's not for everyone.
When you’re an artist you have the right and liberty to explore any concept you can conjure up. People way too a***ytical
This too.
No disrespect to OP I just don't feel like reading all that right now but any involved discussion on this site is dope.
But artist have the right and more importantly the obligation to follow their interests and take them as deep as they can go and reflect that back to the world. It's why if you're an artist and you're not growing and reflecting at a near constant basis you get edgy and impatient and depressed.

He wasn’t conjuring up ideas making the album
Though
This was an expose on his own personal frustrations regarding himself
This too.

OP never said his feelings weren’t valid but that they came from a misinformed and unprincipled place

Oh I just meant no disrespect cause I'm coming into his thread and commenting without reading what he posted.
Just in general gonna defend Kendrick for keeping it real though. He just keeps getting better.
I think the only part of this I disagree with is that he has an individualist sort of mindset. I say that because within your example on mirror "baby, I just had a baby you know she need me." disproves that he's focused on himself alone. It's more that he is focused on the people surrounding him, which he considers selfish.
I'm would not agree that being focused on those surrounding you is selfish. I could see how he could feel that way like if he thought he could be doing so much more than what he is doing/has done. That's such an easy thing to say about a lot of people though, if you had to answer that could you? I couldn't.
Mans ain’t wanna D*** Gregory his family just to realize it was all for nothin.
I go back to this thread alot @op

Had never heard of D*** Gregory before this post
Reading a bit about him now but what do you mean by this?
This is dope but also mad disappointing to think about.
Like it's CRAZY the things rappers respond to versus what they let slide bro. Niggas will call you out your name, French was selling wolf tickets about this nigga for mad long and no smoke for him but it was for a woman that made a tweet that didn't actually say names and has now honestly...her point was proven right.
@AmoryBlain
Well it’s because he actually cares about what noname was saying
that's why it's hilarious EVERYONE is coming/came at Noname when she's been like...the only rapper that has been doing things that you can actually see and feel as far as working towards societal change.
HER getting the smoke from all these rappers does nothing more than prove her original point right in the goddamn first place.
I love Mr. Morale but also Noname wasn't wrong about a damn thing.
I don’t think Kendrick disagrees with you; he just wanted to address an artist that he probably believes had a valid point. He just is admitting he isn’t the guy for the job at that time.
Like fam you was saying Martin Luther King was staring at you bro lol.
I'm sure at a time young thinkers like Noname was hearing that and felt something these niggas really be so unaware
No where on the album did he says that he is confused why people look at him as a savior. He literally says he chose it (the crown) and he failed and he’s sorry.
with all of its shortcomings and trolling (which to me is par for the course and I dont really know these posters like that anyway) this site to me is the best place on the internet to traditionally discuss 'music and how it makes you feel' with just enough self-awareness and insight brought from multiple perspectives
I really should've made that thread about Kendrick going through Bob Dylan's arc but its all good
Not asking you to make the thread now but what was the idea behind the Bob Dylan arc?
Had never heard of D*** Gregory before this post

D*** Gregory admitted he wasn't the best father/at home he could've been cause he focused on the people and the revolution instead.
In a 2000 interview with The Boston Globe, Gregory was quoted as saying, "People ask me about being a father and not being there. I say, 'Jack the Ripper had a father. Hitler had a father. Don't talk to me about family.'"
commondreams.org/views/2000/08/24/pain-and-passion-dick-gregory
''It was never in my psyche that I'm going to be a great father,'' Gregory says. ''Mine was: I'm going to be a great fighter for the liberation, whatever it takes.''
Once, he was at a rally in Atlanta, sitting onstage next to businessman Bertram Lee. Gregory started whispering to Lee about money woes, the children's school fees. Lee wrote him an $18,000 check. Then activist Hosea Williams arrived, bloodied from a local protest. Williams started preaching; more money was needed for the movement. ''I gave him my check,'' says Gregory. ''Damn the family.''
