tbh i think you might be right but yeah imma sit with it
gates peaked with lb2 unfortunately - jailtime really screwed him over imho
Kinda... I mean I really like "Murder For Hire 2" and "Luca Brasi 3" had some ultra strong cuts but "I'm Him" was trash for the most part and now this...
Damn this s*** trash? Lb2 is an absolute classic
dead ass I didn't enjoy that listen... now I'm taking a break and will revisit in few more hours... but I have no idea what song I'd even want to hear again...
edit: Boogie album 100x better off of first listen.. and I don't even know Boogie
i've only listened to about half so im gonna reserve judgement
i liked most of the first 5 or 6 tracks, thought it was kinda cool that he was leaning more into the singing flow compared to his last couple of releases which went the other way into like more direct, hard mob boss raps
listened to the next 5 or 6 and am kinda worried that he's leaning into it TOO MUCH if that makes sense - likea lot of these songs kinda blend into one another so i hope the second half is a bit mor distinct.
tbh i think whatever this is is obviously a lot different to whatever 'khaza' was a few years ago lol.
His albums have been a lot poppier. He just dropped Super General and Metro as loosies.

I’m going to listen just in no rush
damn, it’s not good?
Imo not, the intro had me hyped but it was a scam. The album has no vibes like that at all
All the promo singles like Weeks, Power, etc. are all better than the s*** he dropped on here
yeah this s*** not like aggressive stuff that i think people love him for it’s mostly love songs and those piano based tracks

Imo the best gates stuff has always kinda rode the line between rap and poppier stuff. Problem with his last few releases before this is that he started making very distinct songs so you'd have the lovey, sing-ier songs and then the 'hard' rap tracks. I guess my problem is that he moved away from melding them effectively and the latter ended up being a lot more po faced as a result. Like on lb2 and islah even and before he's quite tongue in cheek with a lot of what he raps but imo he became a lot more attemptedly serious since then, if that makes sense.

Yeah I gotta listen to this more but Islah would have the poppy hooks and some really beefy verses to back it up
