Yes? I don’t see how this = small businesses are ass

well they're inefficient and backwards. and that backwards nature creates a certain reactionary consciousness amongst the american gentry (i.e. the evil Jewish "finance" capitalists are crushing the hardy WASPy folksy capitalism of SBs).

here's one of the better written things on the gentry.

Thank you so much, this helped a lot

What is the proposed reason for him doing this? What’s the goal here?

The goal for Trump and his administration is to bring manufacturing jobs back in America and have a trade surplus with other countries.

He basically wants to bring back the good old times when America was building s*** and he's using tariffs to try to achieve that.

Economists and critics have been critical of this plan and how it's been implemented for various reasons:

    1. It's normal for a country like the USA to have a trade deficit since we are rich and a consumer based country. So him wanting a trade surplus doesn't make sense.

    2. How Trump and his administration calculated the reciprocal tariffs is flawed.

    3. It would take years to bring manufacturing jobs back and even if they do come back, the products would be more expensive since US usually takes advantage of cheap labor from other countries.

    4. These tariffs make things even more expensive for Americans and can send us to a recession.

    5. Prices might not back down for consumers if tariffs are removed, which would make things harder for Americans long term.

He could also be using these tariffs as a negotiating tactic to get what he wants from certain countries.

It's Trump so he can flip flop and can change his goals to fit his narrative so we'll see how everything plays out.

I did it’s the actual article that the first guys referenced. essentially the exact same thing. We’re discussing actual nuance but you’re always gonna steer the convo to capitalism=bad it’s gonna end up in the same place. While u may be right to a certain extent it’s simply not what’s being discussed and I don’t care to engage

how is it not what is being discussed? capitalism is the actual issue here. stop acting smart when you're not. you could learn something from what I'm saying.

their are no "merits" to small businesses. this isnt 1845, you aren't cutting down trees to saw tables with your bare hands because nobody invented the assembly line yet. small businesses merely act as parasites on the system which has a scientific internal logic toward centralization of capital.

Some people just make their living owning businesses dude. I know everything has to be some grandiose rebuking of the system to you so you can’t even engage with a simple conversation. Your local cafe, restaurant, etc where regular people get some of their only enjoyment out of meager existence

4 years of tariffs like this locked in would warrant it all moot anyway. We’d be in a goddamn depression.

If you can just act like it’s a dude on KTT that wants to one day own a bar then u don’t have to even engage with the material harm of everyday people. Which is the premise of the conversation lmao
