you can tell he doesnt really want to do this but thinks its politically meaningful to do so because assembling a "task force" is nonsense bureaucracy. compare this vs philly, where the mayor basically just straight up ordered cops to arrest everyone. not talking about quality or ethics of the solution but he's clearly making it more complicated on purpose

In a Monday interview with the Daily Caller, US President Donald Trump said that he was surprised that israel lost its control over Congress.

"israel had the strongest lobby in Congress of anything or body, or of any company or corporation or state that I've ever seen. Today, it doesn't have that strong a lobby. It's amazing," Trump told the Daily Caller.

When told about the March Pew Poll that found 53% of US adults had an unfavorable view of Israel, compared to 42% in 2022, and that half of Republicans polled by Pew now view israel unfavorably, Trump stated: "They're gonna have to get that war over with. But it is hurting israel. There's no question about it. They may be winning the war, but they're not winning the world of public relations, you know, and it is hurting them."

Trump also asserted that "nobody has done more for israel than I have, including the recent attacks with Iran, wiping that thing out."

i don't really know what his beliefs actually are but if anything else, newsom is an incredibly cautious politician. he knows that among blue voters active anti-homeless action is kind of republican coded (so unpopular) and he doesn't have the contextual clout to circumvent discourse (for example cherelle parker & eric adams in philly & nyc respectively both lean on racial discourse to protect their stances on more extreme anti-homeless policy). By making both the language and the execution way more complex and obfuscated, it protects him from the liability of the policy. Saying "we assembled a task force and the task force has oversight and the oversight committee told them to do xyz which in turn talked to the cops when relevant and i only talk to the oversight committee" is way more politically affable than "i told the police to do xyz"
