Nuclear + renewable + batteries is the most sustainable combination of energy production but batteries still need some innovation in design at the moment. The largest benefit of dirty sources like gasoline/natural gas/coal is that they can “ramp up” quickly to meet demand by burning more resources, nuclear provides a large base but can’t ramp up, neither can renewables (and solar doesn’t work at night lol), batteries can meet this gap but there isn’t currently enough installed battery capacity and I’m no engineer but I’m skeptical of batteries’ long term reliability given their capacity degradation.
