Meh, I think that was a justification. Didn't KissLand reach number 2 on Billboard upon release? Plus, with the way the whole 3 projects in a year was orchestrated, his jump to mainstream pop was inevitable. See it like the LOTR. The one ring being superstardom, being a pop entertainer, etc, etc. The ring was tempting to every man. Isildur (Abel) gave in to the temptation. It takes someone with great will -- Frodo (Frank Ocean) -- to resist the urge to ruin your discography for a few dollars more.
