1970 to the first half of the 2010’s did not operate like this

Puff daddy sampling 70’s records and adding new 90’s elements to them wasn’t him just trying to recreate music from the late 70’s lol

Same for anything you can think of as being revived in that 20-30 year span. Neptunes took a lot from older music but it was still the first time we experienced the Neptunes. Lol niggas are straight up just remaking shawty Redd and lex’s s***

Outside of the presence of Tik Tok reels shorts etc/things that are technology related the 2020’s have no cultural identity of their own lol

It’s crazy she got so broke she had to quit rap and do only fans. Now she so rich she can just rap for fun

you’re not wrong in that sense
but honestly the early 2010s only felt so disruptive bc of the emergence of new platforms on the internet that never existed prior to that moment (ie tumblr/blogspot/whatever else)

Everything feels redundant even the way ppl use platforms imo

    The 90’s and 2000’s

It started in the late 2000’s with the 80’s cool kids type s*** and that turned into 90’s nostalgia in early 2010’s which now is 2000’s nostalgia lol

I don’t think people in the 90’s did that with the 70’s and imo it’s because of the internet and how it peaked with casual usage/the beginnings of retrospective mood board type usage of the internet in the late 2000’s with things like tumblr or retro archival websites

we dont have to go case by case thru every example we could think of there's obviously thousands of them

the point is that it's always been a thing & even moreso as there's less & less truly original cultural output being generated . we're saying the same thing i just think it's been around longer. it's like climate change, it was a thing in the 90s but there's more factories now

You’re also right bc I think the internet era (2010s and beyond) is when the concept of referencing became more direct and less blurred too

That’s when the snake began to eat its own head and it’s only gotten worse
