capturing the essence of the subject instead of the story of the subject

For the people that saw this, is it okay if you know very little about the royal family/Diana going into this?
The atmosphere is so claustrophobic and the anxiety is pumped to 11 in this. When you get those breather moments you feel like you inhale a giant breath of air. The way Diana’s mental health is portrayed is so strong and beautiful. You feel the pain, the anxiety, the struggle she has. This is far from a biopic and definitely makes you feel like you were dropped in her life for a few days. The score and Kristen are the best parts of this. The dialogue is extremely strong as well, easy to miss but makes sense in the fact that there is no double backs when you talk in real life. I can see people coming out thinking this is a boring arty film but it delivers on what it wanted to tell. 9/10

I only know the bare minimum about her life and I feel like you are able to grasp who is who even if you don’t know the family like that.

Wait what you mean by “easy to miss but there are no double backs when you talk IRL”

In the movie Diana talks in a very particular way so sometimes when she whispers or when she is feeling very anxious her voice gets very stuttery or she speaks much faster and it can be hard to make out for people who aren’t used to accents. And I meant there are no double backs in that no one is gonna ask for her to repeat herself or to explain better since they are used to her speaking style

Oh ok word I feel you. But yeah the movie was dope, they built up the anxiety and tension really well.

It reminded me of Uncut Gems in how it wanted you to feel the pressure the characters were feeling, I really loved it. Good films can make you cry but great ones can make you feel something as strong as anxiety that isn’t yours

yep you'll be fine. they did a good job at not really making it about the family either. they're there of course but this is all Diana as it should be
i'm pretty bare minimum too. kinda made me wanna know a bit more tbh
Why is this so divisive?
This thing was incredible
If you’re looking on RT it’s cause they went in expecting a biopic for some reason. Also saying they didn’t like Diana being portrayed as “crazy” pretty much disregarding depression and anxiety. And even some calling her entitled and that she should’ve just loved being rich. Pretty unsympathetic crowd tbh but I feel like anyone who goes in knowing this is a character study will come out appreciating it. Glad you enjoyed

Yeah saw a lot of criticism of them "portraying Diana as unstable" or crazy, and I never got that vibe at all. Anyone who's ever ACTUALLY had a panic attack knows how she's feeling. Absurd criticisms being thrown at this thing.
Might be my favorite of 2021 so far.

versatile too, haven't seen either film yet but from the singles I've heard from Spencer and Power of the Dog, both are beautiful and have much different sounds
so many amazing film composers right now
