“You grew around guns right?” To the only black guy

  • bold, innovative, and shook me to my core. some of Rob and Zendaya’s best acting on screen. this and Die My Love would make for a crazy Robert Pattinson romantic double feature.

that's what i meant. Zendaya's character is believable but the way everybody reacts to her, especially the LOVE OF HER LIFE is just like ... what?

like if this is the person that I love and want to spend the rest of my life with, my response to her confession would not be what Pattinson's is.

the characters in this film feel unnecessarily cruel and cold. i know that's part of Borgli's formula but for some reason it doesn't work here.

I’ll say this though in defence of this: I think this is where the decision to have everyone in the film be very privileged upper class people comes in to play. Like that dinner scene with 2 couples where Zendaya first reveals her past, I think it serves 2 purposes. 1, obviously to set up the entire conflict of the film. But 2, to show us that like… these people just sort of f***ing suck lol. This dude is so self righteous that he genuinely believes the worst thing he’s ever done is be scared of a dog. Alana Haims character is clearly immediately deplorable. The way all of them are talking about someone who would use heroin is horrible. They’re taking advantage of this high end catering testing service and treating it like a bar and getting drunk.

I think if the people in this film seem like they’re not acting normal, it’s because they’re not normal. They’re idiot self centred rich Jack asses.

I couldn’t help but feel like the ONLY normal character up to that point and beyond was Zendaya. The dance instructor? They’re all insane.

For sure, but again, I think the types of people that would even do a wedding like this are superficial. I think that even trickles down to the fancy dance instructor who thinks doing rich peoples wedding choreography is the most serious thing in the world. And I agree, Zendaya shows the most glimmers of normal, ironically lol.

I feel like Borgli as a non-American is definitely saying something in this film about the collective sickness in America and how many Americans would opt to blame individuals as a means to avoid confronting the collective sickness that is America. I also don’t think Borgli is trying to defend or absolve the individual (Zendaya, in this case). It’s hilarious how many people will go see this thinking it’s a ~normal romantic comedy featuring 2 of the world biggest stars lol

I haven't seen the hate but she's very good in this movie. some say her best performance, idk if i'd go that far but she's definitely playing her usual type.

I really enjoyed how they wrote the explanation for Zendaya not following through because it takes away any moral "out" from the viewer and is very conflicting. And American mass-shooting malaise aside, I appreciate the commentary around the absurdity of being more disturbed by an act that didn't happen, than the actual s*** people did do. Haim's gotta be one of the most unlikeable characters of recent memory, holy f***.

i thought this performance was totally different than anything I've seen from her, way more shy and feminine

    If this movie upsets you

If we don't empathize with the school shooter and refuse to look at the darkness that exists within ourselves, we're just ignoring the problem
