I like dj smokey and rxknephew as well as listening to legit anything new on Fridays whether I like the artist or not

Independent artists didn’t get traction like they do today. Every artist was marketed and consumed by people from the same places in the same ways
You were either part of the machine or your career went nowhere for the most part
Today artists have much more power and have made their own lanes and gained popularity without the traditional label model
