i dislike discussing timelessness in music but maybe thats just because its intentionally antithetical to the mainstream? like obviously something like Prince is gonna sound "more 80s" to people but it feels wrong to credit punk as more timeless because of that. the more alternative music is prob always gonna have less immediate association with time period that the mainstream era defining stuff
