    Label tried to do Jay Electronica like Atlantic did Lupe Fiasco

    Crazy to think T&Y would've ended up just like Act 2 if it wasn't for Anonymous

    roc wanting to make jay's album have more "mass appeal" sounds far fetched tbh

    @op

    Different art. There's some different details on this one

    seems like this was one of the drafts. the same artist posted the one in op on his instagram but he deleted the post some time ago.

    wow

    if that’s really true then f*** hov. he most likely changed the entire course of rap because of that

    Word jay z was onstage willfully telling him to release it. I doubt his hands were really tied.

    Back in 2012 they wanted a song to promote the album.
    To jay, it went down to "how am I gonna produce a single radio worthy without compromising my vision.". Several attempts were made, the album changed and faded away. Then jay moved on.

    I don't see how a song like Road To Peedition couldnt do this. Sounds just like an exhibit song which is what gave him hype in the first place and what people wanted to hear from him

    Yeah. They wanted their money back. Understandable but inappropriate to a guy like Jay.

    Was the demand for a single from Hov or just the execs and label ppl at roc? I remember reading at the time when the album was submitted that Hov loved it but wanted a radio single

    Everyone wants this out man lol. Including jay and his team lol , this basically an official release at this point with a finished version coming soon. Hard to see how a more mainstream song was wanted when we have New Illuminatinwith Kanye and Road to Perdition which would give his target audience what they want.

    Rihanna energy in the sample... I think she was drunk when she recorded "Higher".

    I read that she wasn’t drunk but that’s the vibe she wanted when she recorded it and that’s why the song ends so short. It’s supposed to be like a drunk voicemail
