I think it's very much a taste thing, like for me it combines basically everything I love in music, but I can totally see why it wouldn't work for somebody else
Like Wildflower is my album of the 2010s, and I see people give that thing 6/10s all over the place, but for me Long Season hits that 'Jesus Christ this is perfect music' pleasure centre that the best Pink Floyd stuff does, and it just keeps getting better for 35+ minutes like a big endorphin snowball

rvifeel like you wont be able to really tell the difference yet but basically
death - cookie monster-esque vocals, more groove, speeds up and slows down, usually more clear production, goes for max heaviness. gore/violence vibes
black - shrieking higher pitched vocals, usually more lo-fi, more simple hypnotic riffs, European, sometimes atmospheric or mystical. satanic vibes
not sure which you'd be able to get into more easily tbh. maybe whichever vocals are more palatable at first
