I've seen that Biden is leading in the polls for the general, yes. But Clinton had a lead up UNTIL election day. The margin or error was large enough for Trump to win on election day. There's also a lot of extraneous variables that we aren't accounting for, because we can't. For instance, in 2016 it was the FBI investigation within a week of the election. I write all of this to say, anythings possible.

You're the one not accounting for extraneous variables. For instance, the reason Trump is sighted to lose is a combination of poor polling and general atmosphere. Republicans are turning against him, forming Super PACs to get him voted out of office, he's currently failing to handle a pandemic, he's failing to handle protests, etc etc.

Suburbanites who used to compose Trump's base are heavily drifting away. Elderly individuals, who are the most impacted by COVID19, are also becoming less likely to vote for Trump.

Vets are also turning away from him, with PACs making ads in response to the Russian hit list scandal.

Also, Trump literally got impeached for trying to fake a scandal against Biden so I have no idea why we're trying to predict 2016, when these are totally different elections.
