Will be in LA in early April. Staying in Silverlake. We (group of 4, with a car) have a list of things we want to hit. Getty and Malibu one day, hike one day, DCA another. We also have some restaurants on the list, but just looking for more things to do. Cool LA things to do. Not touristy but not super niche/local either.
never been, jus scouring my google saves so.. grain of salt.
near silver lake:
near getty:
near dca:
Ngl ktt is the worst place to ask this you're better off going on reddit
I’ve been looking there too. I just hate posting on there though
Learn to surf in Malibu
After that hike at the Leo Carrillo Beach
Then drive all the way to Burgers Never Say Die, f*** that In N Out bs. If not into burgers try some pizza at Quarter Sheets
Catch a Lakers game
Go to Linden for a nice fancy but affordable dinner from a Black restaurant
Also The Getty and National History Museum
Rent a nice and comfortable vehicle.
Maybe touristy but parking around Western Canyon Rd and hiking up to the Griffith Observatory was one of my favorite things I did on my first trip to LA.
There’s also a really good taco place that sets up in the evenings around the intersection of Venice Blvd and Beethoven St if you’re in that area at all, I’ll see if I can find the name
I think that will be a beautiful time to visit, hope you enjoy the trip!

My hiker friend put that on the Griffith Park on the Google Maps list lol. That’s locked in haha. Will keep an eye out for that taco spot.

burgers never die was really good but honestly the price of in n out will always make it better than bnsd
bnsd is basically just what if mcdonald’s was made with real, fresh ingredients and costs $20
would def go back if i was ever in the area but if you’ve never had in n out before id still recommend saving a meal/snack for it

Tell me what you’re looking to do — like if you visited another major city recently, what did you spend your time doing there/enjoy most?
I grew up in Orange County and work in LA, so I can recommend places in both.

Friend has an academic conference so besides that we’re open to anything. We enjoy walking around, feeling the city. After we hit our prescribed things for the day, we’ll probably just pick an area and walk around and see what’s happening. We talked about Santa Monica a bit, but really open to anything like of I-10 (Culver City included with that)

First time I went to In N Out was in 2012. I’ve lived in LA for 5 years from 2018-2023 and have been there periodically 2012-2018.
I have only eaten at that place three times in 14 years. Very average burger joint

Your mistake is that you don’t douse the burger and fries with Marie Sharps hot sauce
It is the absolute goated combo, truly life changing trust

Hmm yeah I mean thing is that when people say “LA” it’s not like saying Boston or Chicago or w/e cause the Greater LA area is SOOO huge, so there’s no way you can do everything, you really have to just focus in on one area at a time, which means one type of set of activities at a time
It sounds like you’re looking at the West side and beach vibes, so I’ll say that Santa Monica is obviously a huge highlight (relatively clean, higher end shopping, great beach, some of the best upper end food — HiHo Burgers one of my fav burger spots and in SM). As far as the West side of LA goes, I’d also throw out Redondo Beach/South Bay in general for great food and beaches. Torrance has amazing Asian food. Westwood/UCLA campus is dope if you’re into visiting college campus areas and it’s near Santa Monica. And then I’d also throw out that Downtown Long Beach has a great food and shopping selection and a lot of fun things to do, and it’s not quite as crowded as other parts of LA. Guisados is one of my fav Taco spots that has a few locations in West LA area
Also it’s on the East part of LA, but Pasadena and the Huntington Library is f***ing gorgeous and people never talk about it when they travel here and there’s a s*** ton of great food there.
And then again I’d say a trip down to OC is worth it because it’s so much less traffic than LA and way cleaner. Seal Beach, Newport Beach, Crystal Cove, and Laguna are all beautiful, and I can recommend a whole bunch of food places around.
Yeah just do one area per day and try to stay away from morning (7am-10am) and afternoon/evening (2:30-8pm) rush hours on the weekdays. Weekends are unfortunately pretty packed all hours.

Huntington library looks really nice. If anything I’m just amassing a super list of things to do on subsequent trips too lol

I used to live on the west side, if you like deli bay cities is unbeatable
If you’re looking for a super fancy place the best is yamashiros which is not in westside but worth the trip
I would die before I go back to oc tbh but that’s cause the traffic coming to and from is miserable and it’s basically just a gigantic suburb
