‘“The Matrix” is a very different story. It’s unfortunate but actually I had this offer for “The Visit” and then the offer came from “The Matrix”, so I knew it was happening but I didn’t have dates. I thought I could do both and it took eight weeks to work out that the dates would work – I held off on accepting a role in “The Visit” during that time. I was in touch with director Lana Wachowski, but in the end she decided that the dates weren’t going to work. So we’d sorted the dates and then she sort of changed her mind. They’re pushing on ahead without me.’

Agent Smith story truly resolved so even if he were to be used I would hope it was going to be minimal . Their final dialogue can’t really be topped

Just rewatched this trilogy. The second two aren't really that bad, they're actually decent movies in comparison to all the super hero movies out today, it's just the first one is a clear cut classic that hits on all levels. So they're bad in contrast.
Biggest issue with the sequels is honestly the lack of tension because the agents aren't as intimidating anymore and CGI Neo can fly around. It's no LOTR, but I think Star Wars sequels are worse.The Matrix (10/10)
