Awhile back on Twitter there was a video of the open matte version of the trailer and it’s pretty striking how heavily the green filter was used in the sequels and newer editions of 1 compared to the original release. This is the twitter thread on it

yeah man it's nuts trying to explain what '03 was like, Matrix absolutely ran the streets all year round

like these days it'd seem like oversaturation, but at the time it felt like nothing like that had really happened, so the whole year felt like an event

Enter the Matrix and Reloaded dropped like SAME DAY in most territories, so it just felt like everywhere you went it was just Matrix

then Animatrix dropped about a month or two later, so the hype was lit right back up again

Revolutions of course rounded out the year in November
