It’s calculated viral programming . Like you can literally see and hear what it wants the viewer to feel at all times

I get your point, blockbusters have always been around so why should we disparage these movies anymore than the others?
Well its bc the studios aren't even f***ing trying anymore. These movies are so boring and predictable, they are bad cinema. It's a problem that came from the marvel blueprint, those movies are legitimately hard to watch. But not in a "I dont understand or they are trying too hard" way, but in a way that they treat the audience like they are f***ing dumb. There used to be more of an inbetween with blockbusters and the reason they were entertaining was because it felt like the protoganists may actually sacrifice or lose something i.e. the stakes felt real.
Now with a sequel coming out every 6 months for every f***ing superhero, its like watching a high budget CW tv show that they keep renewing for another season.
So the reason these movies deserve to be disparaged is because they are taking precedent in the industry. I'm not suggesting box office is an accurate judge of quality but just compare the top 5 box office movies of 1999 vs 2021.
1999
1 Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
2 The Sixth Sense
3 Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
4 Toy Story 2
5 The Matrix
2021
1 Spider-Man: No Way Home
2 Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
3 Venom: Let There Be Carnage
4 Black Widow
5 F9: The Fast Saga
But damn that 1999 to 2021 s*** depressing because after a landenic where we could all dir you think that art would want to say more. I didn’t survive a pandemic for more of the same s*** and complacency

There’s hours of it on YouTube. Algorithmic movie making
The funny part is some saying “ it feels like matrix resurrections was made by an ai “ when that’s how I feel about no way home . The main risk or surprise of any kind being his sacrifice in the end
“ why didn’t you talk to admissions before changing the universe “
Very wink at audience of “ we got time to kill “

This list is crazy. A movie like 6th sense would never crack the top 5 in 2021

So if people won’t buy thought provoking things because “ I just want fun “ doesn’t that in a way ruin movies ? Like what is the dark souls of movies where people go in to be confused and discuss ? S*** even if tv at this point
People don’t go to movies for boss fights they go for God mode
This amusement park sound dope
6 flags is cool but sometimes you want to skydive with uncertainty of if you will survive landing

Top 5 movies of 2007:
1) Spider-Man 3
2) Shrek the Third
3) Transformers
4) Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
5) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Sequels/remakes of popular established franchises = money. This didn’t start with the MCU

Imo it doesn’t because you can’t tell people what they should look for in movies. I know many people who use movies as an escape because their lives are hard enough I can’t blame them
I’m not gonna argue they’re quality cinema but you realize there’s a larger market of people who only look for movies to entertain. They don’t want anything else from their movies and that doesn’t make them less or dumber than anyone else. Maybe they need an escape from their own stressful life
You’re right that MCU has over saturated the CBM genre but the way they they built this universe it’s like every movie is marketed as a sequel to an ongoing story which makes movie goers continuing to watch them.
Sequels of popular franchises are almost always cash grabs but they do numbers. I can at least give MCU credit with their reign they’ve tried to diversify casts so that Asian, black, and women led movies are doing numbers so that hopefully in the future blockbusters can see it can be profitable
Obviously I realize that there is a large market of people who only want movies to entertain. The problem is now this market accepts any garbage they put out now and it is taking precedent within the industry. Leading to sequels of every single relatively successful movie instead of new original movies.
My main point is these movies are NOT entertaining, but the "entertainment-interested" movie goer does not seem to care they are being fed the same garbage over and over.

Oh yeah didn’t start with mcu but it they perfected it. Same way call of duty did Fortnite
the trouble with criticising blockbusters is that the train won't stop anytime now
it's like marketing for films... just a lot of research put into film that can't but work everytime...
and the continued success of movies at the box office guarantees a refinement of the method until people are legit tired of it

Also Disney buying their super hero competition and getting exponential more screen time , exclusive deals , showing endgame 24 hours makes it not feel like a competition but a monopoly

This just comes down to opinions at this point and we’ll never come to a conclusion when it’s your opinion vs someone else’s
When the movies continue to gather viewers and get decent reviews what else can we base if it’s good or not besides our own personal opinion

If I can pay to show my movie 24 hours in a row buy all the competing characters then reviewers overly critical of competition ( dc ) then I win

It’s not competition when Disney does what they do
