THE ERASER by THOM YORKE

The opening lines remind me so much of Taylor Swift “Please excuse me but I got to ask
Are you only being nice
Because you want something?
My fairytale arrow pierces
Be careful how you respond
Because you'd not end up in this song”
These are sweet words but also very cunning.
I wasnt exposed to this mix of electronic sounds with sad, depressing lyrics until 2016-2017, so I feel like the album played a big role in influencing and popularizing that 2010s wave.
The next standout for me is The Clock. This floaty style of singing is my favorite from Thom and the instrumentals balance computer and rudimentary (whatever he was tapping on and the beatboxing) elements.
The middle of the album doesn’t impress much. It’s just pleasant with some nice sonic twists and turns to keep you interested.
Thankfully the album ends on a very high note. Harrowdown Hill still sounds fresh and Cymbal Rush is the most melodic track on the album.
Overall I like this album a lot, even more than a few Radiohead albums. It’s very emotional at times, which is something I always look for in albums with a predominantly electronic production.
8/10

Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah it hits a lull or a dry spell in the middle for me. Glad he still kind of kept that Radiohead electronic trademark sound throughout the album though

I picked this one because the mixing of different genres and individual track elements to create this unique world is kinda amazing. Not an easy listen at first.
