directors cut is def the best version by far of the 3
but yeah the movie makes the show look like dogshit
And the comic makes the movie look like dogshit
And the comic makes the movie look like dogshit
I def f*** with the movie ending way more than the comics ending
but ultimately it really does depend on how u view written art vs visual. The film obviously can't capture the detail presented in Moore's novel but it does a great job capturing the essence of Moore's story while improving on the ending imo and also just making everything look so badass. Sequences like Dr. Manhattan's origins or Rorschach trying to escape the cops are better than they will ever be depicted in the graphic novel.

Yeah the comic ending a little too goofy to pull off in live action maybe but also I don't think there is near as much of a big conspiracy to cover up in just turning Manhattan into the common enemy. Guess they wrote around it well enough tho. Definitely some scenes were replicated as well as they could have been, a few better. The Dylan intro was hits hard.
I just don't get "transcendent zenith of its medium" vibes when I watch the film compared to when I read the comic and i cant really elucidate beyond that.

well the comic is considered by many to be the greatest written story of all time about superheroes so its a tall order for any movie to depict. The show is absolute dogshit compared to Moore's work. Snyders approach was basically to just emulate Moore's material as much as possible but I think by not being as preachy as Moore was about how characters like Rorschach or Dr. Manhattan should be portrayed as well as that ending, I think Snyder actually echoes some of Moore's themes even better than Moore himself did (the brilliance of Rorschach is that he is exactly what you wish to see when you look at him and Moore wants to portray him as an loser who is not nearly as heroic as he thinks he s being, I think Snyder depicts that in an even better way because he leaves his portrayal to be ambiguous and that is fitting as a result)
its hard to call Snyder's Watchmen "transcendent of its medium" when its adapting one of the most highest praised pieces of literature in decades and its effectively just adapting most of it faithfully, but compared to other comic book movies, its definitely levels beyond most of them.

Wait how does Moore want to portray Rorschach as an loser? The irony of that being your read of his characterization

Ok yeah he is the type to throw around"harlot" alot but I mean he's seen some s*** and is the middle of societal collapse
I just think of loser as someone who sits on the keyboard and doesn't take action on anything they claim to care about

i think definition of loser is someone who hates women as well as women/men who have s***(though yeah it is a term that originated from boys online) and he definitely has a lot of examples in the novel where he sympathizes with rapists, judges women as w****s or assumes they are, etc.
Alan Moore himself also in an interview said only losers love Rorschach, so it was def his intention
Snyder goes for a more ambiguous portrayal where there are elements of Rorschach that are respectable but its from a sense of where you can see how f***ed up he is when you're not idealizing him in the movie version.

Yeah he's a f***ed up dude but I respect how real he keeps it :DOITgif:
They definitely pulled off some flawless casting for Rorschach
dude is a terrifying little gremlin. Great in that Shutter Island scene too.

yeah I found most of the casting to be pretty excellent, but he was definitely the highlight. I also loved Crudup as Manhattan, Morgan as the Comedian, and Goode as Adrian. I also thought Haley did a pretty great job as Freddy Krueger even if that movie wasn't good.
and yeah I think thats part of why the ending of snyders watchmen is so beautifully done because of Rorschach's ending. Its a perfect send off for his character, someone who is completely unwilling to compromise even if its for the good of society.

Crudup credibly pulling off an omniscient being
dude can be really affecting as well, too bad he hasn't got more great roles. He played a good Jimmy Page lol.

it is kind of a travesty tbh. He had an incredible scene in the Snyder cut of Justice League as well but he doesnt rly get a lot of meaty roles sadly.
tbh even Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a fantastic actor and he dont get many great roles either. The Comedian was huge and his character in the Walking Dead def put him more on the map, but yeah hes slept on too.

Yeah I was hype when I saw him but it was so brief
didnt I hear that Snyder is working with him in his next thing or something

Didn't see Walking Dead :keefnah: but he was pretty good

dont think snyder has announced his next project yet, but I wouldnt be surprised to see Crudup or Morgan in it. He did put Morgan as Thomas Wayne in BvS for that brief opening scene as well.

yeah i stopped watching the show after s3, but i saw morgans scenes on Youtube and he was stealing every scene lmao
