The Square. Felt a little like Tár imo
Probably my least favorite Ruben Östlund film, but still great and pretty funny at times. I feel like he has a really good grasp on the detached reality that rich people live in
I fw Zeros and Ones heavy, maybe the self isolation played a part in my judgement lol.
Real pandemic kino
Watched Jackie Brown and I like the homage QT payed to black blaxploitation
Looked up Bridget Fonda and this s\*\*\* broke my heart
My heart. The plot was kinda weak but I was bawling by the end. So I watched the first half without subtitles by mistake and was like, maybe that was intentional and I'm just supposed to figure out what's going on and experience the silence or whateva but, Apple TV just bugged out... I'm glad I did tho because it made me pay more attention to the sign and body language and it's so interesting how well I could guess what a conversation is about just by the context, facial expressions and gestures that ASL carries with it. But at the end of the day I still I watched it without subtitles BY MISTAKE until like halfway through which is an L but I think it would still have left the same impact on me. This was beautiful and wholesome, and Emilia's voice is Disney-like. Not to compare apples to oranges but I think Sound of Metal was more powerful. Both are worth watching.

östlund is so ass. i can't stand his films. play was OK though.
ruben östlund thinks he's a sociologist unearthing new human behaviors (of scandinavians, in this case) when he in reality is an anthropologist, already describing and showing stuff everybody already knows.
someone who lives outside of scandinavia might appreciate his films more, but I can't stand them.
roy andersson is the supreme swedish filmmaker since bergman. there are SLIGHT moments of roy andersson's humor in the square. I could've easily seen the gravel pile exhibition in one of his films.

lol I can see what you mean. I find his films enjoyable but they’re definitely nothing groundbreaking
And I agree, Roy Andersson is making films on a completely different level
