Incredible movie, one of the most beautiful/mysterious/comforting things I’ve seen. The entire setting works so well with the films story. Movie makes you feel like a kid again when everything seemed big and haunting.

It’s filled with evocative shots (for example, the father stepping on a poisonous mushroom will stick with me) and the way in incorporates Frankenstein is so powerful for both movies.

That sequence in which the kid was playing dead had me in a chokehold lol. You should check out Erice’s other film to El Sur. I personally don’t think it’s better, but it’s kind of similar to this one in feel and perspective but also different in its themes. Also a very beautiful film.
Just watched Grandma’s Boy for the first time and running it back rn

You just seeing that for the first time?
Nah but I haven’t seen it in awhile and wasn’t expecting it to hit like it used to.
Fortunately, I was wrong. Still a masterpiece

So good it never disappoints
A Bride for Rip Van Winkle - 6/10
The second half was tender, heartfelt, and beautiful. The first half was... not as great. The first half accomplished what it needed to do, but it dragged on longer than it needed to, and eventually it got to a point where I felt like it was just needlessly piling on Nanami for no rhyme or reason. Nanami as a protagonist is mind-numbingly boring. She just kind of sits there passively and lets things happen to her.
Saw this at Alamo tonight. They were playing the 4k remaster. It looked incredible. Shots and color in this film really stand out 30 years later. Returns>89 by a wide margin imo

The Woman Who Left 9
A most touching meditation on time, injustice, & love. There is a quiet intimacy saturating the composition of each shot, as well as a tenderness of performance from the actors. A simple harmony achieved between the movement of bodies and the immobile camera
Kissing Jessica Stein
I think like most queer people I loved the beginning the most because it just drags on for a while in the middle part with a few good moments here and there. But, I understand why it had such an impact in the 90s. This is really a beautiful view into what it's like dealing with day-to-day heteronormativity and I love that the two stars wrote the script. I think Jackie Hoffman playing Joan has got to be my favorite character ever.
Shiva Baby
It was alright, I mean it's probably a great movie if you love chaos. I don't. The only character I could relate to was Kim (Dianna Agron) who couldn't wait to get the hell outta there because girl... the way.
