Oh yeah, I watched hellraiser for the first time the other day.
So my first watch was interesting because there were aspects of it that a liked, mostly the special effects. the practical effects used took me back to the thing. the creepy uncle's birth scene is awesome.
but im watching this movie and theres something just not right with it. What i was feeling was an underlying gayness with the film. Its just so f***in soft, and white. its very white, i smelled the mayo comin thru the screen. It was a little soap opera-ish.
whole time im waiting for pinhead to show up cause thats what i know about hellraiser. but im actually invested cause its fun seeing the flesh man, and the triflin wife bringin the bodies for him. the pacing is good despite no pinhead. so eventually pinhead makes his appearance and im reminded of the god hand from berserk and remember miura's 80's american film influence. so im pretty warm at that point.
gotta say, pinhead was kind of a disappointment. he doesnt really do anything badass, and lets a teenager sway him so easily.
So, come to find out, the movie was directed and filmed by brits and produced by american backers. It was directed by the author of the books which had a heavier emphasis on the marriage and adultery aspects. so this pretty much answered my question about it being so romantic and soft. i was proud to be an american at that point.
Hellraiser 2 is better
Hellraiser 3 is epitome of 90's horror
i had to vent on this movie :yeshrug:
That's a wrap
stalker - 10/10

lmaoooo i feel you but first Hellraiser is like GOAT status. i can see why you’d want more Pinhead evil but he really wasn’t even the focus of that movie, just the lead Cenobite.

yeah that’s dumb but series would’ve been way lamer if they let f***in Julia be the main villain
Skammen (1968)
Somewhere close to being the most expressive Bergman I've seen to date tackling a rather common topic during the time of this film.
Liv Ullmann performance she is the best person he could ever ask for as a constant in his cast. Closing scene gave me the chills, fuck!

I watched this a while ago. It's cool, but honestly think that Bergman could've focused less on the plot before the "corruption" (not sure what I'd call it) of Jan which I think peaks at the that last encounter with Jacobi.

I agree. Wanted the movie to be like 20 mins longer cause I knew there was no way he was going to have enough time to explore further his transformation.
If that was the case I'd have give it the extra half star for a perfect rating.
Sweetheart - girl washes ashore on a deserted island and starts being tormented by a sea monster.
First half was solid, I liked that it wasnt dialogue heavy and the mystery involving the monster was pretty intriguing. But halfway thru s*** kinda fell apart - the writing became flimsy, protagonist starts making stupid decisions, etc. It had great potential but it's still an okay lil movie. It did have some rlly cool shots. Also, kiersey clemons fine af.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark:
Movie was a lot better than i expected, especially on the scary side. I heard about the great effects but the cinematography was nice as well. Pacing was kinda off at times, there where also some moments where the editing could've been better. Overall, i really enjoyed it though, i would even go as far and say it was better than the first IT.
