    Buffy 11/10

    Angel 9/10

both shows absolutely goat character development over the seasons, what a journey. feel free to shoot me some recommendations for shows which have such a constantly shifting ensemble dynamic and so much development - it's really wild to compare Buffy S1 with S7. outside of Firefly (also Whedon) haven't rly seen anything like it.

I wrote a more general pitch on why you should watch Buffy in the buffy thread here:

my personal experience of the quality of the shows throughout the seasons:

Buffy is fun from the get go and immediately sets itself up well with a winning episodic formula, I love how they develop the lore and storytelling a lot more in S2 and S3 and while there's a couple lost stretches and fillers throughout it only gets better from there imo. S4 is maybe the overall strongest, S5 is a bit more inconsistent but has some of the hardest hitting episodes. things get messy with S6 tbh, but I respect how savage and dark it got, S7 to me was easily the weakest and a bit contrived at points, with some characters like Caleb just seeming more like hamfisted plot devices... it really suffers from never managing to restore a sense of sitcom normalcy which gave the whole show its backbone. but it did bring everything to an impressively satisfying end given how complex the whole lore and web of characters got.

Angel S1 didn't immediately hook me, I could vibe with the idea of a darker urban take on this world and it had cool bits, but seemed directionless. I was really impressed how they gave it direction and structure with S2 and S3, which is maybe the most consistent run in either show. loved how they're zeroing in on the greys which made buffy look much more black and white in comparison, really settling intl its own distinct groove. but the S4 comes in and it's such a clusterfuck. like it's still ok, but damn. definitely the worst season of either show. S5 is a return to form, to me not as great as 2/3 but easily some of the most fun episodes and a really savage final arc.

overall Angel is pretty great and a must see if you already love Buffy, I could also see it appealing to some people who don't even like Buffy as much. that said I think Buffy has a way more solid structure and overall stronger characters and has a crazy ability to hit you with emotional gut punches on a regular basis, even just over little things. Angel had these, too, but not as many and not as profound ones as some of the more serious buffy episodes.

    True Blood
    Friday Night Lights
    Skins UK
    Shameless
    Dawson's Creek

  • Oz. An actual perfect show for the first 3 or 4 seasons. Stumbles a bit after that but still it’s one of the best series ever made IMO. So far ahead of its time

Has anyone here watched This is Us? (NBC show)

Seems kinda corny, but surprisingly I’ve heard really good things and my wife wants to watch it

  • Watching the US Queer As Folk again. Show still holds up and i dont think any gay tv series has topped it tbh. It's obviously dated and very white but it's still relevant.

Show is raunchy as hell for cable tv.

oh that's actually one of my favourite shows ever hah. i've rewatched it recently-ish and I thought the ending held up even better today. They stuck the landing imo.

It's why I want to watch Lost again. I never watched it durings it's airing until pretty much the final episode aired so I didn't have a big attachment to the ending. Plus I was way younger.

  • Olivia Dunham/ Anna Torv the baddest

Sad Mindhunters got cancelled because I would have loved to see more of Torv.

24 is also one of those 20+ episode per season greats
