    I'ma bite.

you can hear (and this is why I wasn't personally a BIG fan of SH3 even tho Red Button and Stories About My Brother I do enjoy) the passion kinda not be as evident in his RAPS as it was in let's say IYRTITL or 5AM in Toronto or on leftovers like Lefty Lucky.

Like bro sounds a lil sleepy/monotone when he does those kind of raps now.

And yes I know Champagne Poetry him explaining his waning passion for this s*** is apparent but my thing is like, if you keep rapping about how the trials and tribulations of the industry, fake friendships, etc is making you lose your passion for this then the next question to ask is "why don't you just retire then?"

Not saying I want him to retire but it legit does sound like this music industry doesn't give him any happiness or fufillness.

    Valid point

'Evolution' in the music business is overrated, and a fake talking point that critics use to try and sound smart.

You don't deviate from what you do great for the sake of doing it. Artists are who they are. Artists can get better at who they are, but they are who they are.

I think his sound has evolved, but formulaically, he's still the same. You know on his flagship albums it'll be 45% Hip-Hop / 45% vibes / R&B, 10% other.

And the true reality is that people actually don't want their favorites to deviate that often. Humans don't want or like change much, and that is a fact. So the idea that we are critical of artists sticking to their DNA too much, is simply a fake talking point.

You wouldn't tell Michael jordan that he's taking too many fadeaways ya know

    well put

only thing i hate about current drake that i didn't with old drake is his excess use of autotune nowadays

in terms of artistry he has gotten way better in the last 5 years. i feel like his best hip hop bars, introspective writing and raw emotional expression about love are all within his last 2-3 albums

Drake is still really good, but do you understand how incredibly difficult it is to sustain greatness for an extended period of time, in any arena?

Exactly I wanted him to spam his peak sound over and over until he kept it improving

If he released like 2-3 projects as consistent as NWTS IYRTITL and WATTBA

    We’d be blessed

I just want him to lock in one
More time and give us that classic Drizzy man

    The hard s*** the 0-100 type s***

It’s not even that he isn’t capable of making great music anymore. Even his weakest projects have some of his best songs ever on them (Away From Home, Blue Tint, Polar Opposites, etc) he just doesn’t prioritize concepts as much anymore, at least not in album form. He technically always has some great music out in some form imo but his albums are so much lazier and less focused which can be really irritating knowing how good his album discography could be if he wasn’t so worried about being a stake influencer and s***

if were being honest, he raps way better from 2017-2022.
In my opinion that is the peak i want him to reach again. The 2011-2016 was cool.

He was hungry 2011 to 2014 and 2015-2016 he relied on more of a pop sound.

2017-2022 is very prime. DND, Middle of the Ocean, Omerta Diplomatic Immunity, Bigger Than you, Emotionless Sandra's Rose, Is There More, March 14, Survival, Chicago Freestyle, Gold Roses, lemon pepper freestyle, Champagne Poetry, The Remorse, 7AM on Bridle Path

Name someone that has for that long

There’s examples of that happening in other genres for ages

But Rap has finally stopped being ageist, but it took Hov, Pusha, Ye, Nas, Slick Rick, Tribe, Black Thought, Jay Electronica, Kendrick and Cole pushing 40, the greats are very capable of dropping classics they don’t all need to fall off anymore

This ain’t the NBA or NFL, you don’t need good knees to rap
